Road Crew On Track For Victory

By Jeff Collerson

Road Crew has not been able to win in 16 Wentworth Park starts but his in-form trainer Anthony Azzopardi believes his greyhound gets the golden opportunity on Wednesday night.

The son of Oaks Road and Myron's Angel, who has been placed in seven Wentworth Park races, has box two in the Find Us On Facebook Stakes (race two, 520m).

Azzopardi, who has landed winning trebles at the past three Wentworth Park meetings, is hopeful his greyhound can finally score an elusive victory at the Sydney track.

"Everyone would be surprised at the fast times Road Crew can run in trials, but he has not brought his trial form to the racetrack," Azzopardi said.

"I would love to win a race in town with him for his owner John Maroun and I believe Road Crew gets his chance this week.

"He is in a suitable race and has a nice draw so I think he will be hard to beat.''

Also on Wednesday night, Azzopardi is bringing smart stayer Magic Earner back to Wentworth Park for a 520m sprint in the Xmas Bookings Available Stakes.

Magic Earner has not raced for more than two months but is trialling well according to Azzopardi.

"She hurt her back muscle and while she did not tear it I thought it best to give her a spell,'' he said.

"Magic Earner is going well but while she has won from box eight I would prefer to see her drawn on the rails in a 520m race.

"You have to start somewhere and I am going to work her back up to long distance racing.''

Magic Earner's toughest rival in the second leg of the quaddie looms as Dark Magnum, who was a luckless third at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

Having only his second start since a spell, Dark Magnum was checked while trying to cross to the rails from box five and did well to snare the minor prizemoney.

The Mary Wright-trained greyhound has brilliant early speed and is capable of leading throughout and getting close to his personal best Wenty time of 29.90.

After drawing near the fence in box three, Cobber">Cobber In Motion should be good value in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes.

The Nathan Goodwin-trained greyhound won in a tidy 30.12 from box two at Wentworth Park on September 2 and should only need a clear run to go close to winning.

Cobber In Motion came from fifth in the middle stages to run down Skate Thin Ice when he won three months ago and that greyhound has since gone from strength to strength, winning at Wentworth Park and qualifying for Thursday night's Dapto Puppy Auction Classic Final.

"Cobber In Motion is going every bit as good as when he won at Wenty in September,'' trainer Goodwin said.

"Forget his sixth at Wentworth Park last Wednesday because he had box four and got caught up in traffic early and had no luck.''

Best bet on Wednesday night appears to be Morish">Morish, who is chasing her fifth Wentworth Park win in the ladbrokes.com.au Stakes.

Morish came from fourth in the middle stages to win at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, rocketing home along the rails to win running away.

While the Kristy Sultana-trained greyhound had box seven last week, she is far better positioned in box two on Wednesday.
