Fever Expected To Rise At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Group 1 Bold Trease Cup winner Bourbski Fever and Luna Jinx, who has trialled in near record time at Wentworth Park, stand out in Saturday night's heats of the Group 3 Summer Cup (720m).

Bourbski Fever, a kennelmate of Fernando Bale from Victoria's all-conquering Dailly kennel, took out last Friday night's Group 1 Bold Trease final at Sandown">Sandown Park.

While Bourbski Fever is trained in Victoria she is owned by NSW western districts enthusiasts Jason Lyne, secretary of the Bathurst Greyhound Club, and Ross Davidson, staff facilities manager at the plush Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort.

Bourbski Fever has box four in heat two of the Cup while Luna Jinx, trained in Victoria by Gavin Harris, has box six in the stronger first heat.

While Luna Jinx finished sixth to Space Star in an Association Cup heat at her only Wentworth Park start, she had previously trialled at Wentworth Park in a then near record 41.95.

Luna Jinx sped over the 720m on March 21 and her recent Melbourne form indicates she is going as well as ever.

She finished third to Bourbski Fever in 41.92 in the Bold Trease after winning her heat over 715m at Sandown in 41.94.

Luna Jinx will face stern opposition from 2015 Sydney Cup winner Ada Mary, a locally trained greyhound who has won five of her 15 Wentworth Park 720m outings and former NSW greyhound Kilkee Flex.

Kilkee Flex was beaten a nose in 42.44 over 720m at Wentworth Park on February 21 after leading early, dropping back to a clear second, and then coming again to just miss.

At that time she was trained in the NSW Riverina by Shannon Ellis but for recent races has been with Victoria's Peter Dapiran, a master trainer of stayers.

Kilkee Flex has scored two wins and a third from her past five Melbourne starts for the Dapiran kennel.

Peter Dapiran, who trained last year's Summer Cup winner Zipping Rory, said Kilkee Flex could make an impact.

"Kilkee Flex is not in the same class as Zipping Rory but she has early speed and from box two I expect her to be the early leader in her heat,'' Dapiran said.

"Kilkee Flex has a flat spot in the middle stages but I am hoping she can be the pacemaker and that her rivals 'jam up' behind her and allow her to steal the race.

"I thought it was worth taking her to Sydney because there are not a lot of top class stayers around at present.''

Good Odds Angel won a heat of the Goulburn Cup on Tuesday and on Saturday night her three brothers Funky Punk, Tanks Punk and Your Shout Punk, have great chances at Wentworth Park.

Jim Coyle, who bred the litter, trains Saturday night's strong contenders, who have each drawn superbly.

Funky Punk, undefeated in three races from box one, has drawn her favourite slot in the ladbrokes.com.au Stakes while Tanks Punk will also carry the red rug, in the Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes.

Your Shout Punk, who has the most early speed of the trio, has box two in the Den Den Keane Stakes.

Funky Punk was an unlucky fourth from box seven at Wentworth Park last Saturday while Tanks Punk was a good second from box one at the track on July 29.

He bungled the start that night and after being a distant fifth on the back straight rattled home to be beaten a length in 30.14.

Your Shout Punk meets moderate opposition and goes into his race after a near record 22.68 all the way win over 400m at Gosford on November 17.

"I think Funky Punk is the pick of my three runners,'' trainer Coyle said. "Her fourth from box seven last week was a very good effort and she is terrific from box one.

"Your Shout Punk is fast early and is in a winnable race but he is not strong at the end of 520 metres.''

Saturday's safest wager should be Privacy, who has box three in the Christmas Night December 12 Stakes.

"He has not been beaten in four starts from box three,'' Privacy's trainer Garry Williams said.

"Privacy pushes up the track for the first 20 metres and then goes to the rails so he should only need to get around the first turn safely to win.''
