Dyna Double One Looking For Back-To-Back Cups

By Stuart Turner

Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Double One, local star Flash Reality and recent Group winners Cash In Motion and Norm The Storm head the contenders for Thursday’s Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup (520m) Heats.

Less than a week after the biggest win of his career in which he defeated Fernando Bale, Dyna Double One makes the trip to Albion Park, where he will jump from box three in Heat six.

Andrea Dailly’s greyhound is in great form and has a good record at Albion Park including a track record run of 29.51 in June.

He is just one of the top quality greyhounds who are tackling the Cup Heats, with last month’s Group 3 Gold Coast Cup winner Norm the Storm also lining up in the series, jumping from box two in Heat five.

Norm The Storm has won on his last three visits at Albion Park and with a prized inside draw his trainer Mathew Reid is in optimistic mood.

“I’d be disappointed if he wasn’t in the first two,” Reid said.  “He’s jumping out of his skin right now.

“He sometimes lacks early speed, which is a worry.  We were praying for an inside draw and that’s what we got. He is fresh and looking good.”

Queensland veteran Flash Reality (box eight, Heat three), meanwhile looks a tempting chance for the series and will jump from box eight in Heat three.

Tony Brett’s greyhound broke the 431m track record at Ipswich at his last start and with three wins from four is in devastating form.

Heat four features recent Group 3 Ipswich Gold Cup winner Cash In Motion (box three), who made it four wins in five starts with a 29.89 victory at Albion Park last week.

This Heat also features top NSW hope Bessy Boo (box five, pictured), who is making his Albion Park debut but racing in typically consistent form.

NSW star Fantastic Spiral starts his campaign for a third Group title jumping from box seven in the second Heat and looks a strong contender.

This year’s Group 1 Dapto Megastar and Group 3 Nowra Summer Puppy Classic winner is debuting at the track but has won four of his last six starts, including a tough 30.07 success at Wentworth Park last week.

Best series roughie could be Mincin’ Machine, who jumps from box one in the same Heat.

He disappointed last start but should relish box one and has won two of his last three.

Six Heats take place on Thursday, with the $100,000 to the winner decider next Thursday. The winner of each Heat plus the fastest two second place finishers will qualify for the Brisbane Cup.
