The Gardens Meeting Abandoned

By GRNSW

This afternoon’s meeting at The Gardens has been abandoned due to extreme temperatures forecast for the Hunter region.

Greyhound Racing NSW has made the decision due to the welfare of the greyhounds scheduled to compete at today’s meeting, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting temperatures in Wallsend to reach 42 degrees Celsius.

Under the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules, stewards may abandon a meeting when the temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius or the Stewards are of the opinion that the temperature is likely to rise above 40 degrees.

With temperatures soaring across most of NSW, participants are advised to familiarise themselves with GRNSW’s Hot Weather Racing Fact Sheet.

Participants are also reminded to take care and monitor their greyhound for potential heat stress.

GRNSW’s Hot Weather Racing Fact Sheet can assist in minimising the damage heat stress can cause in your greyhound(s), including information on GRNSW’s on-track hot weather procedures.
