Jack Walker Looking A Series Bolter

By Stuart Turner

Petar Jovanovic rates promising bolter Jack Walker as his best winning hope in today’s Group 3 Brian Johnstone (515m) heats.

The eye-catching newcomer, who scored a seven-length victory on debut over the 388m at Angle Park on October 28, jumps from box seven in the second of three heats (race five) at Angle Park.

Jack Walker will line up against a strong field which includes She’s A Looper, whose record includes a 29.41 victory at Angle Park last month.

Jovanovic's greyhound steps up to the 515m for the first time but the owner-trainer thinks his greyhound may be a decent roughie chance for the series.

“He’s showing everything you’d hope he would at this stage,” he said.

“He’s up against some experienced greyhounds here but he’s had a heap of work over longer distances. I am expecting him to keep improving.

“He has been quicker going over the 400 metres so I think he’s strong and can handle the distance.”

Jack Walker is the latest of Jovanovic’s greyhounds named after characters in the famous British soap opera Coronation Street.

“My wife is from England and loves the show,” Jovanovic said.

She’s A Looper (box three) looks tough to beat after starting her racing career in explosive fashion.

The Cameron Butcher-trained greyhound has won five of her seven starts so far, including her 29.41 run and a brilliant 29.54 display last start.

A daughter of Oaks Road and Little Looper, she can be tardy early but is very strong at the finish and looks to have great chasing ability.

The improving Kirin Corby-trained Eduardo (box two) looks the top pick in the first heat and a potential series challenger.

A son of Cosmic Rumble and Cool Keepsake, he has scored consecutive victories over the 515m at Angle Park and ran a strong 29.75 at the track two starts back.

She’s A Looper’s impressive brother Worm Burner (box seven), meanwhile, looks the pick in heat three.

He has scored eight wins and a placing from 11 starts, including a sizzling 29.63 effort at Angle Park in August and looks a good chance for the series.

He has yet to start from box seven but with his good early pace looks the likely heat winner.

The semi-finals take place next Thursday, with the $25,000-to-the-winner decider a week later.
