Anja Aiming For Perfect Eleven

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten greyhound Anja will be out to maintain her perfect record at Labrokes Park Lismore tonight.

The Frank Hancock-trained greyhound has won her first 10 career starts and will be aiming to register her 11th victory when she jumps from box six in the 5th grade Look Out For Northern Rivers Maiden Stakes (race 10, 420m).

Hancock rates Anja, whose wins include a track-record equalling 22.30 effort over the 395m at Albion Park last month, as one of the best he has trained.

“She looks like she has that touch of speed you need,” Hancock said.

“She’s learning how to race as well. She’s certainly up there with the best pups I’ve had.”

Anja is from a boom litter by Collision and Dulcinea.

Looking to end Anja’s perfect run will be her litter sister Mahailia, who will get a start as first reserve following two scratchings in the race.

Mahalia is also trained by Hancock and has won six races from nine career starts.

“As well as her and Mahalia, there’s seven others in the litter that I am working on bringing through,” Hancock said.

“It’s a lot of work but I am on cloud nine with the way things are going right now.”

In other action at Lismore on Tuesday night is the return of Logger Luke, who reached the final of the Pop Northfield Maiden Series at Casino, and will line up in box eight in race three.

Logger Luke found trouble in the Pop Northfield final but showed plenty of talent with his win in the semi final and looks the best in this race.

Swift Exit (box seven) can continue trainer Peter Simpson’s excellent recent run with victory in the night’s eighth race over the 520m.

Winton Burn (box five) is another greyhound in solid form and looks the pick in race seven (520m).

The consistent greyhound has scored three consecutive placings and is handy from the squeeze box, with one wins and two placings from four previous starts.
