Whites Have An Ace Up Their Sleeves

By Jeff Collerson

Greysynd Ace looks to have an exciting future after putting an extraordinary streak of bad luck behind him in style.

The son of Bekim Bale and Greysynd Zero scored a terrific 15-length win maiden win in the fastest time of the night at Dapto last Thursday.

Trained at Goulburn by Wayne White for Victorian owner Warren Owen, Greysynd Ace went fast out wide to lead at the catching pen before careering away to clock a sizzling 29.82 for the 520m.

Greysynd Ace, who was whelped in April, 2013, was having his first start since September.

"Greysynd Ace's career was delayed because he cracked a wrist soon after being educated," White's son Jake said.

"He was badly interfered with at his first rAce start and at his second run he hit the running rail.

"Then he broke down during his third rAce but all is well with him now.

"His Dapto win was encouraging because he had never seen the track before and apart from his quick overall time his run home figures were a very quick 12.40.

"We plan to enter him for Bulli next week because he has trialled well there and after that we'll give him one or two starts at Wentworth Park.

"But middle distance racing is likely to be his specialty so we will step him up in distance in the not too distant future.''

The curiously coloured Sugar Hit Johnny, nicknamed "the golden child'' by trainers Kim and Andrew Mulrine, will target Wentworth Park after notching his third win in five starts at Dapto on Thursday night.

Sugar Hit Johnny, who is just 20 months of age, came from third early to hit the front on the back straight before winning easily in a fast 29.85.

"His fast time didn't surprise us because Sugar Hit Johnny had trialled 29.60 at Dapto,'' Kim Mulrine said.

The Mulrines, who train a team of 12 on 30 acres at Collector, just off the Federal Highway on the way to Canberra, have been in the sport for 32 years.

"We learned a lot through working for the great trainer John McDonald,'' Kim said.

"When Andrew and I worked for John he had the 1981 NSW Greyhound of the Year Glider's Son and his brother, the 1983 Richmond Derby winner PETER GLIDER, at stud.

"At that time John was training the top grade Harold Park sprinter Rowie's Glider along with Camden's Ghost, who won the 1986 Ladies BrAcelet.

"We have never had a dog coloured like Sugar Hit Johnny because he is jet black yet has golden hair around his eyes, hence the nickname 'the golden child.'

"Andrew and I intend giving him a post to post hand-slip at Wentworth Park and then trialling him out of the 520 metre boxes before giving him his first rAce there.''

Miss Foxy Lee will trial at Wentworth Park tomorrow (Tuesday) night after maintaining her unbeaten record at Maitland on Thursday.

The DEAN Swain-trained greyhound won a heat and final of the 400m Maitland Future Stars before winning a fifth grade 450m heat there prior to last Thursday's final win.

Miss Foxy Lee won her heat in 25.21 but trimmed those figures to a sizzling 24.96 with her terrific run last Thursday.

"She is crying out for 520 metres and I'll be putting her out of the boxes at Wenty on Tuesday,'' Swain said.

"I've found in the past that if you put a greyhound in a rAce at Wenty after only a hand-slip they can miss the jump so Miss Foxy Lee will be trialled from the 520m starting boxes.''

Swain landed a winning treble at Maitland, also scoring with Emett Khan and Poker Brat, who clocked 25.19.

"I train Poker Brat for a syndicate of card players and he is the first dog I have trained for them,'' Swain said.

"He is only a little fellow - just 27kg - but he must have what they call 'small man syndrome' because he is all business, all get up and go.

"I was pleasantly surprised he was able to win in 25.19 and lead throughout at only his fourth start.''
