Big Plans In Store For Youi

A Brisbane Cup campaign may be on the cards for Youi if the greyhound can continue on his winning ways at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Youi is aiming for his fourth straight win when he jumps from box six in the best eight Functions @ brisgreys.com Stakes (race eight, 520m).

His wins have included an impressive 30.01 victory last start as well as a 29.90 win at Lismore on September 29.

Youi’s owner-trainer Lee Wylie said the greyhound continued to improve with every start and believed that would again be the case on Thursday night.

“He was a bit of a slow learner, but now he’s learned how to work his way through a field,” Wylie said.

“There’s no secret with him – he’s just a good greyhound. He won from box seven last week and I think that race was a harder than here.”

Wylie said he intended to enter Youi into the heats of the Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup on November 26 given he maintains his form in the coming weeks.

Thursday could be a big night for Wylie with Youi’s sister Cracking Caza looking a winning chance in the fifth grade brisgreys.com Stakes (race three, 520m).

Cracking Caza, who will jump from box five, has scored three consecutive placings in her last three starts. She has a strong record from box five, with two wins and a placing from three starts wearing the yellow rug.

Wylie said Cracking Caza may be looking for further but was confident of another bold showing on Thursday.

“She’s an incredible greyhound, but just a bit slow out of the boxes,” Wylie said.

“If you watch her, she builds momentum in her races. She is really looking for the 600 metres, but she really shows pace later in the race.

“I’ve had some handy greyhounds over the years but I’ve never quite managed to crack a ‘big one’. I’m hoping this time I can with one of these two.”

In other action at Albion Park, recent Group 3 Gold Coast Cup winner Norm The Storm looks capable of saluting again in race six (520m).

Norm The Storm finished fifth at Ipswich last week as even money favourite after finding trouble at the first corner, but can atone this week.

He has run 29.77 at Albion Park and has scored three wins in his last five starts.

Glenallon Zulu and Rich ‘N’ Wild, meanwhile, both look ideally drawn in box one to take out races one and nine respectively.
