King Taro Can Reign At Maitland

By thedogs.com.au

A cracking field of young greyhounds will line up in this afternoon’s Brodie Wells Future Stars (400m) decider at Maitland.

While most interest in the lead-up to the feature race has centred around the two fastest qualifiers – Miss Foxy Lee (box four) and France Soir (box seven) – Central West trainer Jeanette Foley believes her greyhound King Taro can cause an upset.

King Taro will jump from box eight following his 22.95 victory on debut in last week’s heats.

Foley would have preferred an inside draw in the decider for King Taro but said he was still in with a strong chance.

“His run (in the heat) wasn’t that bad as the conditions weren’t ideal,” she said.

“That was the first time he had raced in a full field so he really handled himself well. He loves to be on the inside, but at least out wide he will have plenty of room.

“There’s greyhounds (in the final) who went faster than him last week but I certainly would not rule him out.”

King Taro will have to improve on his debut run if he is to overcome the likes of France Soir and Miss Foxy Lee.

France Soir, trained by Anthony Azzopardi, won his heat in 22.59, which was on the back of a sizzling 22.23 performance trial at Maitland prior to his race debut.

The DEAN Swain-trained Miss Foxy Lee, meanwhile was the fastest qualifier for today’s final, winning her heat in 22.43.

In other action at Maitland, Proven Kodiak (box eight) aims to continue his good form for new trainer Mark Azzopardi in race five.

The son of Nitro Burst and Blu Pie Girl has won his last four starts, including three since transferring from Victoria.

Veterans Cosmic Halo and Mr Riley (both box eight) are racing well and look the top picks in race nine and 10 respectively.
