The Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW (the Commission) is inviting feedback on an issues paper it has released on breeding and wastage within the greyhound racing industry in NSW.

The purpose of the issues paper is to invite constructive and considered responses in relation to the elimination or substantial reduction of “wastage” in the greyhound racing industry in NSW.

The Commission has identified that a significant issue concerning the welfare of greyhounds and the ongoing sustainability of the greyhound racing industry in NSW is the killing of many healthy greyhounds which have been purpose bred to race.

The issues paper details nine key questions on which responses are sought by the Commission. The questions relate to a broad range of topics including the average length of a greyhound’s racing career, possible measures that could be taken by the industry to reduce wastage as well as how grading and programming could impact on levels of wastage.

In inviting responses to the issue paper, the Commission has stated that all respondents need to ensure that any solutions proposed are realistic, practical, enforceable, or potentially enforceable. Responses must also be limited to the issues outlined in the nine key questions.

Greyhound Racing NSW encourages industry participants who have views on eliminating or reducing wastage in the greyhound racing industry to provide a considered contribution to the issues paper.

The issues paper can be accessed on the Commission's website – Inquiry.justice.nsw.gov.au">www.greyhoundracingInquiry.justice.nsw.gov.au – or by Inquiry.justice.nsw.gov.au/Documents/Breeding_Issues_Paper.pdf">clicking here.
