Husky Cowboy Aims To Rustle Up Another Win

A trip to Dapto races may be on the cards for Husky Cowboy if the greyhound can register another win at Nowra this Afternoon.

Husky Cowboy jumps from box two in the Tile Electrical Nowra Stakes (365m, race 10) aiming for a second consecutive win from three career starts.

The greyhound scored an impressive 20.69 victory at Nowra on October 10, jumping brilliantly and running away for a three and a half length win.

Owner-trainer Charles Dalton said he was confident about Husky Cowboy’s chances today.

“He’s well bred, he is a good kennel dog and he likes the inside box. Barring any hampering, he should be good for the win here,” Dalton said.

“He’s no champion but he’s a good greyhound and he’s got promise.”

Antarctic Miss (box four) scored a good 25.80 win at Potts Park on October 10 and seems the biggest threat, but Husky Cowboy looks the clear favourite.

Dalton said a crack at a race at Dapto would be on the cards if Husky Cowboy saluted today.

After today, we will probably take him to Dapto and see if he can go further. He looks strong enough and gives the impression he can go further,” he said.

Dalton, who turns 83 next month, trains alongside his wife Lillian from their base at Huskisson on the NSW South Coast.

He was brought up in the shadow of the former Harold Park track and said he started working with greyhounds when he was six.

“I haven’t had a winner since,” he joked.

“Lillian and I are in the sport because of the animals and the people you meet. We love everything about greyhounds.

“I can walk Husky Cowboy around our area and the kids will stop and pat him. He is so friendly, like all greyhounds. It’s a great sport to be involved with.”

In other action at Nowra, Blue Dream (box one) was beaten on debut, but is one of Trevor Rice’s latest handy pups and can atone in race one.

Uno Danger and Rapid Fantasy both look ideally drawn in box one to win races two and three respectively.

Conamara Max (box four), meanwhile can overcome a tricky draw to win race six.

Ruth Matic’s greyhound is in good form, with two wins and two minor placings from his last five starts.
