McFarlane Hoping To Strike Gold At Bulli

James McFarlane hopes his patience with Sonador Gold will be rewarded with a victory at Bulli this afternoon.

Sondaor Gold has endured a succession of metacarpal issues early in his career, limiting him to just the three career starts.

Despite his issues, the son of Where’s Pedro and Chasing Diana has shown plenty of ability, registering an impressive 22.59 victory at Bulli over the 400m earlier this month before finishing third last week behind hot newcomer Carjack Arrest over the same distance.

Sonador Gold returns to Bulli today where he will jump from box five in the 1300 Ladbrokes Stakes (400m) and McFarlane is confident his greyhound is a strong chance to register his second career win.

“He missed the kick last start,” he said. “That was the only thing that held him back.

“He’s 36 kilos – that’s a lot of weight to be coming out of the boxes with – but he’s probably the quickest greyhound I’ve trained.

“If he comes out of the boxes cleanly here he will win.”

McFarlane added that his greyhound is now fully fit and enjoying racing.

“I trialled him well at Dapto and Nowra, but then unfortunately he would pick up another injury,” McFarlane said.

“This is the first time I've had him properly fit and he's showing what he can do. I’m not sure whether he will run the 500m, but he should be a strong 450m greyhound.”

In other races on today’s Bulli card, the classy Bertacious Bee (box eight) looks ideally drawn to take out race six over the 472m.

George Micallef’s greyhound has won three of four previous starts with the pink rug and has won on two of his previous three visits at Bulli.

Meanwhile, Sky Book (box seven), who has won four of her nine starts, looks the clear pick in race seven over the 590m.

The latest exciting prospect from the gun western Sydney Sultana kennel, Sky Book scored a nice 33.56 win over the 590m here two starts back.

Jennifer Brown’s kennel has scored some notable triumphs recently and she could enjoy another here with Jenmar Blue (box two) in the ninth race.

The son of Kelsos Fusileer – the sire of Fernando BaleJenmar Grace scored his third win in nine starts over the 350m at Goulburn last Tuesday.

He has won over the 400m and 472m at Bulli this year and also trialled a super 22.52 over the 400m recently.
