Uno Suzie Heads Lismore Cup Hopefuls

By Stuart Turner

Anthony Azzopardi’s multiple Group winner Uno Suzie and Queenslander Simpatico headline the nominations for the Group 2 Lismore Workers Club Cup (520m) Heats.

Group 1 Winter Cup winner Fabulous Storm and star local trio Mincin’ Machine, Head Shy and Laverne also feature in this Friday night’s Heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner series.

Heat one looks an absolute cracker, featuring Laverne (box one), Azzopardi's Let It Develop (box two), Mincin' Machine (box six) and Simpatico in box eight.

Simpatico travels south in good form, having scored 13 wins and three minor placings from her 19 starts so far.

The daughter of Magic Sprite and Absolute Style has never run competitively at Ladbrokes Park Lismore but has won one of her two previous starts with the pink rug.

Laverne has been below-par on her last two starts but has 11 victories from 18 outings and ran 30.15 here last month.

Heat two also looks tough, boasting the likes of  recent Group 2 Black Top finalist La Grand Logie (box two), Hot in-form local contender Lachie Lyndan (box three)  and Frank Jamieson's Head Shy in box seven.

Lachie Lyndan is in excellent form and is arguably the best local hope.

The son of Dyna Lachlan and Miss Kay Tee has won her last two starts, triumphed on six of her last nine visits to Lismore and has an impressive best of 30.14 here.

Head Shy has scored 11 wins and nine minor placings from 28 starts and looks a strong chance for the series.

He won here in 30.12 last week for trainer Jamieson, who has scored several impressive wins this year in the NSW Northern Rivers.

Uno Suzie, who won this year’s Group 2 Black Top and Group 3 Canberra Cup and is one of the stars from Azzopardi’s gun kennel, jumps from box two in Heat three.

She has never raced here competitively and has a mixed record from box two, with three placings from six previous starts with the checks.

Last year’s winner Yogi Blue (pictured with trainer Peter O'Reilly) jumps from box six in the third Heat but looks a notch below his 2014 title-winning form.

CASH In Motion (box seven), trained by local Robert Cooke, looks a big threat.

The daughter of Smooth Fancy and  Teddy's Jackpot has won of her last four starts and ran a terrific 29.79 at Albion Park two starts back.

There will be four Heats of the Lismore Cup with the first Heat being race four on the program, jumping at 8.21pm.
