Ruby's In Yellow Ready To Shine

By thedogs.com.au

Ruby’s In Yellow will arguably face the biggest test of her short but successful career when she makes her Albion Park debut on Thursday night.

The Lois Neal-trained greyhound has 12 wins from 18 career starts, including victories in three of her last four starts.

While all those career starts have been at the Ipswich circuit, Neal believes the daughter of Spring Gun will have no trouble handling the Albion Park track.

“We’ve trialled her there three times, so she knows the place,” Neal said.

Ruby’s In Yellow will jump from box one in the sixth heat of the spudregis.com.au Stakes (race six, 520m) on Thursday night, with Neal believing the draw will play right in her favour.

“She’s got the perfect draw here as she’s a dead set railer,” she said.

“It’s a big test but from this box she’s got every chance.”

Ruby's In Yellow's most recent win was a 30.78 victory over the 520m at
Ipswich on September 8.

Standing in Ruby’s In Yellow way here will be Kingsbrae Lavinia (box two) and Houindeed (box eight) who are both in good form coming into Thursday’s race.

Neal’s previous greyhounds include former Albion Park 520m track record holder Surfin’ Kawati, who ran 29.70 at the track.

“Surfin’ Kawati would break 30 seconds virtually every week and Ruby’s In Yellow up there with him for ability,” Neal said.

“She’s usually very fast out of the boxes. Her first and second sectionals can be phenomenal.

“It took us a while to work out how best to race her. She is a funny greyhound to handle.

“We have had offers for her but she’s not for sale. She’s my little sook.”

In other action, Apatite (box two) looks the night’s best bet in race seven.

She was hampered while finishing eighth here last start but prior to that was racing very well and looks ideally drawn with the checks.

Georgina (box three) has won three of her last four starts – all at Ipswich - and looks the pick in race five.

Meanwhile, Smokem Up Smokey (box two) is building a decent record and looks a good chance to salute in race 10.

The son of Radley Bale and Flying Fatty has won of his last three, including a 28.04 victory over the 484m at Casino last Friday and won his only previous start from box two.
