Winton Burn Looking Red Hot At Lismore

By Stuart Turner

Winton Burn is in hot form at the moment and he looks a strong chance to extend that run at tonight’s Ladbrokes Park Lismore meeting.

The impressive son of Spring Gun and Diamond Series, who ran just 0.15 outside multiple Group winner Paw Licking’s track record here two starts back, jumps from box one in the Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes (420m, race eight).

A succession of impressive performances since his debut just under a year ago has seen Winton Burn extend his record to 10 wins and nine minor placings from 28 starts.

He has three wins and a minor placing from five previous starts wearing the red rug and owner Sarah Monaghan, wife of Winton Burn’s trainer Andrew, is optimistic of another triumph here.

“It’s a pleasure for Andrew and I to take him to the track,” she said. “He’s done tremendously.

“We know when we take him to the track he will put in 100 per cent.

“There’s a lot of pace outside him here (and) like any of the 420 metre races, he will have to jump clearly.

“He’s just a very handy greyhound all round and he should be in the mix here.”

Winton Burn’s recent record two wins and three minor placings from his last seven starts includes that brilliant 23.89 run on September 1.

Charlie Sprite (box two) and recent Casino Cup finalist Jessie Small in box four look big threats, but with this draw Winton Burn can salute again.

The Monaghans also have two other strong contenders at the meeting with Double Swatza (race one) and Soft Sound in race nine.

Double Swatza ran a solid 24.51 on debut last week, while consistent Soft Sound has placed in her four previous races.

In other action, Laverne (box three) looks a strong chance to continue her strong run of form in the night’s seventh race over the 520m.

Frank Hancock’s impressive greyhound has won 11 of her 17 races so far, including a terrific 30.15 victory over this trip two starts back.

Wazza Bulldog (box one) is in great form at the moment and looks a great chance to score another victory in race four (520m).

Janice McLean’s greyhound has enjoyed two wins and four victories in his last six starts and has a good record wearing the red rug, with two wins and five minor placings from eight starts from box one.
