Auld Seeking Another Big Win

By Jeff Collerson

Seeking Justice heads a powerful interstate contingent competing in Saturday night's two heats of the Group 3 Sydney Cup at Wentworth Park (720m).

The greyhound is part of a super night's racing that also features the likes of NSW stars Brad Hill Billy, Bessy Boo, Chica Destacada and Uno Suzie.

Trained in Victoria by Maxwell "Jimmy'' Auld, Seeking Justice is chasing his fourth successive long-distance win in heat one of the historic race.

"He is no world beater but he is more than handy and box one is a bonus because all he wants to do is rail,'' Auld said.

"He will run out a strong 720 metres.''

Auld, who trained the former champion sprinter Hooksy, is not frightened of the other two Victorian greyhounds, Wind Whistler and Mepunga Tiara, in his race.

"Seeking Justice has raced them before and finished ahead of them,'' Auld said.

Hardest for Seeking Justice to beat could be It's A Bird, who has won each of three middle distance starts at Maitland, Bulli and Richmond, in sizzling times.

"She has not been tried over 720 metres so I am throwing her in at the deep end,'' It's A Bird's trainer Mark Azzopardi said. "I believe she will stay.

"While one can never be certain of how strongly a greyhound will see out 720 metres It's A Bird has had enough work.

"If she is going to stay she will do it on Saturday night and from box two I expect her to race away with a big early lead and hopefully break the field up behind her.''

Dublin Bull, trained in Victoria by Jeff Britton, has also won each of his past three middle distance starts and is tipped to lead all the way in heat two.

"He has good early speed and won in smart time over 660m at Bendigo at his most recent start on September 25,'' Britton said.

"I can't be certain of how strongly Dublin Bull will see out the journey on Saturday night but he is fit enough.

"My brother Robbie's dog Lithgow Panther, who has box six, will obviously be hard to beat.

"Lithgow Panther runs a fast middle section in his races and I had been hoping Robbie would stay away from Sydney this week!''

Spacecraft will be on trial for a start in the heats of the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park on October 17 when he resumes from a spell in the APL Poker Stakes.

Spacecraft cracked a shoulder blade at The Gardens on August 21 but is trialling well enough to win on Saturday night, especially from box one.

"I trialled him over 450m at Maitland on Monday and he went exceptionally well,'' Spacecraft's trainer Lorraine Atchison said.

"Although he has to go 520m on Saturday night his run home time in the Maitland trial indicated to me he was ready for it.''
