Kevin In Bangkok Looking A Hot Chance

By Jeff Collerson

Kevin In Bangkok "ran out of steam'' when third to Black Frenzy at his Wentworth Park debut last week but could continue trainer Anthony Azzopardi's super run of form at Wentworth Park tonight.

The greyhound features for the western Sydney trainer, who has scored a number of several victories recently, in the APL Poker Stakes at Wentworth Park (520m, race nine).

"Kevin In Bangkok had box eight last week and he is much better off in box one,'' Azzopardi said. "This dog can run fast times anywhere I take him and I expect him to be a far better greyhound this week.

"He certainly wasn't disgraced last week but after chasing the winner Black Frenzy most of the way he ran out of steam a bit before I thought he would and finished third.''

While Kevin In Bangkok looks the stand-out bet of the night he can't afford to make a mistake as Northern Rivers greyhound Create Havoc, a winner of six from 10 country races, is drawn alongside him in box two.

Top bush trainer Peter SIMPSON is bringing four greyhounds to Wentworth Park on Wednesday night and ranks Create Havoc as the fastest.

"None of my greyhounds has seen Wentworth Park as I am taking them to Sydney to give them a look at the track with a view to starting them in the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic heats on October 17,'' SIMPSON said.

"Create Havoc is a very fast greyhound and if this race was being held at Grafton I would not be frightened of taking on any other dog with him.

"He won over 407m at Grafton in 22.87 in July when he was just 22 months of age and to do that on a winter track was a big effort.

"Create Havoc is a good railer so will make full use of box two.''

SIMPSON also has Sawadee in box three in the Ladbrokes Stakes along with Go Wild Shaz (box one) and Cosmic Backstop (box seven) in the gapnsw.com.au Stakes.

Sawadee has had just seven starts for three wins and three placings and SIMPSON believes she is also a strong winning prospect.

"She has good early speed and has clocked 4.38 to the first mark at Lismore which is flying,'' SIMPSON said. "Sawadee appears to be in a fairly quiet field so with zip like that she must be a good show.

"Go Wild Shaz is a good beginner and is quick early too.''

Marble Gem has won only two from 26 starts but gets her chance for a city success in the 720m Stayers Club 1-4 Wins Stakes.

She came from last to beat all but Entreaty and Olli Charlyn in a tougher event at her Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night and will relish the small field of seven on Wednesday night.

"Box six won't worry Marble Gem because she is likely to come out last anyway," trainer Subawa Ngurah said.

"She should improve a little on last Saturday's run as that was the first time she had been to Wentworth Park for a long while.

"Her only other look at the track had been when I gave her a hand-slip from the catching pen ages ago.

"I expect her to run a good race on Wednesday.''

Steel The Best's box speed makes her look the value bet of the night in the Evans & Son Jewellers Final.

Although she has box four Steel The Best is a fast starter and should be in front at the crucial first turn.

She dead-heated for first with Skate Thin Ice in her heat after again making the pace but appears to be gaining more stamina with each race.
