Aphorism Heads Nowra Puppy Classic Hopefuls

By Stuart Turner

Recent Group 1 Dapto Megastar finalist Aphorism heads the hopefuls in Monday's Group 3 Classicbet Nowra Spring Puppy Classic (520m) heats but hot pup Fantastic Dotty misses out due to injury.

Aphorism, who won the Dapto Megastar Prelude in a brilliant 29.56 and eventually finished fourth in the decider, jumps from box four in the third of three heats and looks the series pick.

The son of Collision and Fantasy Royale has already scored 10 wins and nine minor placings from 27 starts and earned more than $40,000 prize money.

He has yet to race to Nowra but with wins at five other tracks to his name, including Wentworth Park, he looks hard to stop.

Billy Emgrand, the first pup of legendary Miata to be racing, jumps from box three in the same heat.

Luke Azzopardi’s greyhound won a heat in the recent Group 3 Dapto Maiden series from the same box in 30.28.

Black’s A Marble, who ran a super 29.84 while winning at Nowra earlier this month, jumps from box one in the first heat.

The son of Spring Gun and Cathy’s Marble has won three times at Richmond so far over the 400m and looks a hot prospect.

Spritely Dancer (box three), who has won three of her last four starts and ran a terrific 29.80 at Wentworth Park earlier this month, also goes in this heat.

Ray Webster’s Hugo Boss, who has scored two wins at both Bulli and Goulburn so far, looks a strong contender for the series in heat two.

The son of Dyna Lachlan and Lagoon Lowanna ran a 30.22 while finishing runner-up behind Prince Omar over the 520m at Nowra earlier this month.

One notable omission from the series is Fantastic Dotty, who recently broke the track record at Dapto twice on her first two starts and is one of Australia's most exciting pups.

She was being aimed for this series by Jason Fletcher but has been withdrawn due to a shoulder injury.

Fletcher reports the injury will sideline his greyhound for at least two weeks.
