Black Frenzy Could Strike Gold

By Jeff Collerson

Black Frenzy has won each of two 400m provincial track sprints since resuming from a spell but is ready to run a strong 520m and win at Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

The exciting newcomer, who has won nine of his 12 starts so far, has box four in the Family Xmas Night Stakes but is in excellent form according to trainer Jason MACKAY.

"He hit the running rail and tore a hamstring at his most recent Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park start on April 24,'' MACKAY said.

"Since he has come back he is going really well, overcoming a check to win over 400m at The Gardens on September 4 and then clocking 22.26 when scoring over the same distance at Maitland six days later.

"Since then I have given Black Frenzy a couple of post-to-post slips at Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park, so he is raring to go the full 520 metres on Wednesday.''

MACKAY also has strong winning prospects with former Victorian Nussin Much making his track debut from box one in the Book Christmas Packages Now Stakes and Zipping Saxon, who will exit box two in the Wentworthpark.com.au Stakes.

Nussin Much has registered three wins and six placings in 11 Victorian provincial outings but will face stern opposition from Surfection">Surfection (box four).

The Cliff Clark-trained Surfection bungled the start and finished down the course at his track debut from box eight on September 9 but had previously broken the 30sec barrier in a trial at the track.

Zipping Saxon's lack of early speed has frustrated both his trainer and punters but he is graded to land his first Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park win on Wednesday.

MACKAY's greyhound rattled home to finish third behind Brad Hill Billy and Uno Suzie in a heat of the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint on Saturday night and plunges to fifth class on Wednesday.

The greyhound's ten Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park appearances have produced seven seconds and two thirds but the dog has clocked near record times at Maitland and Richmond.

The big drop in grade should see him break through on Wednesday.

Black's A Marble, who has been entered for Monday's Group 3 Nowra Spring Puppy Classic heats, makes his keenly anticipated first Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park appearance in Wednesday's 520m Nowra To Wenty Final.

Black's A Marble was fastest qualifier when he stopped the clock at 29.84 in his Nowra 520m heat win, which took his record to four wins from five starts.

Jason Buckley, whose father Merv trains the greyhound, said yesterday he believed the dog was capable of breaking 30 seconds at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park.

"He trialled 30.40 there when he was a baby but is a lot better now," Buckley said. "I don't think Black's A Marble will have much trouble getting under the 30 second mark.

"Black's A Marble is from the first litter whelped by Cathy's Marble, who could run like the wind and once trialled 29.50 at Wenty.

"She would not race properly in a field, but Black's A Marble so far does everything right.''

Goulburn trainer Denice Warren could take out two heats of the Evans & Son Jewellers Bitches Series on Wednesday night.

Warren has Lika Storm in box two in heat one and Too Many Daddys in box one in heat four.

"They are both well drawn,'' Warren said. "While they are not brilliant beginners they can each show good pace when they hit the ground.

"Although Lika Storm had box eight when she made the pace and finished second at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park on September 9, I think she is desperate for an inside box.

"Too Many Daddys disappointed me when she finished second at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park last Wednesday and intended taking her elsewhere before realising these heats for bitches were on so decided to give her another crack at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park.''

Too Many Daddys was checked at the start last week but after being second at the first turn and seeming set to win, she had trouble getting around the pacemaker Myrniong Socks and was beaten just under two lengths.
