Expressive Aims To Dominate Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Promising greyhound Expressive looks a strong chance to score another win at tonight’s Bulli meeting.

Craig Chappelow’s well-bred greyhound jumps from box one in the Bulli Dogs on Facebook Stakes (race seven, 472m) fresh from a sizzling second win in his first four starts at Bulli last week.

Backing up from a unsuccessful start a week earlier, the son of Brett Lee and Surpassing bolted round in 22.33 - just 0.13 outside Barcia Bale’s 2012 track record.

Expressive faces a tough field here including Anthony Azzopardi’s Myrniong Star (box two), but Chappelow is reasonably confident.

“He’s got a good chance with this draw,” Chappelow said. “He should go straight and hold his position on the inside.

“The previous week he got clattered early so I could see he had excuses. I knew he would come out last week and do better - and he did.

“The greyhound in box two here has ability and Expressive cannot afford any mistakes, but if he comes out well he should go clear of them.”

Expressive also scored a 22.61 victory at Bulli last month, defeating a quality field including impressive newcomer Here’s Some Love.

Expressive is part of an eye-catching litter that includes Pass Lee, a super victor over the 520m at Dapto last Friday and a heat winner in the recent Group 3 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden.

Surpassing won six of 20 starts and her offspring includes 2013 NSW Greyhound of the Year Jagger Swagger.

“I can see similarities with his mum, although she was more of a Dapto greyhound,” Chappelow said.

“I never had raps on Expressing early on to be honest, but he’s done well.

Pass Lee had the wood on him to start with, but if you put them out on Bulli now he’d win hands down. Hopefully we can work him up to the 520m at Wentworth Park soon.”

In other action, Jason Magri’s in-form greyhound Cosmic Break goes for a fifth win in seven starts in the Ladbrokes Visa Card Stakes (race six, 472m).

The former Victorian (box four) scored a solid 30.32 win at Wentworth Park last start and has won three of his four previous visits to Bulli.

He’s Some Love (box six), meanwhile, looks a strong chance in race three.

Mark Azzopardi’s greyhound steps up in distance here after a 22.35 win over the 400m last start.

Judith Fisher’s kennel has shone in recent months and another of her promising pups, Priori, can win race two from box seven.

The son of Magic Sprite and Sheika debuts here after an impressive 22.53 performance trial display two weeks back.
