GRNSW Announces Pride Of Egypt Inquiry

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) advises that it has received notification from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory of the presence of O-desmethylvenlafaxine in the sample taken from Pride Of Egypt after it won the Ross Clark Electrical Trophy Stakes at the Richmond meeting on 6 March 2015.

The reserve portion of the sample was sent to Racing Analytical Services (VIC) and has been confirmed to contain the prohibited substance. Pride Of Egypt's trainer Dawn Garrett has been advised of the irregularity.

As the prohibited substance detected is a Category 5 substance under the GRNSW’s penalty guidelines the matter is being dealt with having regard to the protocols established under the guidelines.

Ms Garrett has entered a guilty plea to a charge under Rule 83 (2) (a) via correspondence for having presented Pride of Egypt at Richmond on 6 March 2015. GRNSW Stewards are now considering the submissions of Ms Garrett in relation to penalty and will determine what penalty should be imposed.
