Uno Suzie One To Watch In Canberra Cup

By thedogs.com.au

Uno Suzie will back up from the biggest win of her career this Sunday when she takes part in one of six heats of the Group 3 Canberra Mower Service Canberra Cup (530m).

The Anthony Azzopardi-trained greyhound led all the way to take out the Group 2 Black Top at Unibet Gardens last Friday. In that event, Uno Suzie was drawn in box six, and will wear the green rug once again in heat five of the cup heats.

Competing against Uno Suzie will be Opus Forte (box two) who will be looking to turn the tables on the Black Top winner after finishing second to her in the feature event.

In what is shaping up to be a super race, Uno Suzie and Opus Forte will also go up against Margins (box seven) for trainer Brooke Ennis, who won here last year with My Bro Fabio.

The son of Bekim Bale and Gogo Sutro finished ahead of Fernando Bale in the recent Victorian Sprint final and is one of his state’s leading sprinters, with 12 wins and 10 minor placings from 34 starts.

Uno Suzie is one of three greyhounds Azzopardi has entered in the heats, with the Londonderry trainer also entering Magic Earner and Group 3 winner My Boy Snoop.

Magic Earner will jump from box four in heat four in what will be her first race start since taking out the NSW Distance Final at Wentworth Park in August.

Injury prevented Magic Earner from taking part in the Group 1 National Distance Championship, and while she may be in need of the run on Sunday there is no doubt Azzopardi would be expecting his kennel star to simply be making up the numbers.

My Boy Snoop, meanwhile, is coming off a solid victory at Wentworth Park last weekend, but will have to take that good form into the third heat of the cup in which he is awkwardly drawn in box eight and takes on the in-form Brad Hill Billy (box two) and Victorian raider No Diggity (box six).

A number of other quality greyhounds are also taking part in the heats, including Ella Has Class who jumps from box five in heat two.

The winner of each Canberra Cup heat as well as the top two second placed finishers will qualify for the Group 3 final on Sunday, September 13 where $25,000 awaits the winner.
