Zipping Maggie Aims To Defend Chairman's Cup

Last year’s winner ZIPPING Maggie  returns to Wentworth Park this Saturday to defend her Group 3 Chairman's Cup (720m) Title.

Now in the hands of Marty Hallinan, ZIPPING Maggie won the 2014 series in brilliant fashion, beating the likes of champions Xylia Allen and Sweet It Is.

The daughter of Turanza Bale and Natalie Rass, who has won more than $130,000 in prizemoney, has now extended her career record to 15 wins and 16 minor placings.

ZIPPING Maggie is still racing well, with two wins and two minor placings in her last five starts back in her native Victoria.

She jumps from box eight and will face champion stayer Sweet It Is.

Sweet It Is returns a fortnight after taking out the Group 1 Ladbrokes National Distance Championship – the second consecutive year she has won the prestigious race – and breaking the track record with a scorching 41.52 run.

On Saturday night, Sweet It Is will start from box three in the first of two heats, and will be aiming for her 10th victory in 11 starts.

ZIPPING Maggie has won two of her last four starts but finished almost 10 lengths behind Sweet It Is when the pair last met at Sandown Park in May.

The second heat is an open affair, with the Ted Medhurst-trained Lillycette (box eight) shaping up as one of the leading contenders.

Lillycette finished fourth behind Sweet It Is at Wentworth Park two weeks ago.

Of the NSW representatives, Lithgow Panther (box three) looks the best chance of scoring a heat win.

John Chapman’s greyhound disappoinTed in the recent NSW Distance decider, only finishing fifth, but bounced back with a terrific 42.12 win here on August 22 from box three.

He has secured three wins over the 720m over the last two months and finished well ahead of both Smooth Number (box four) and box seven’s Laugh With Mary last Saturday.

The meeting also features the $5,000-to-the-winner Evans and Son Jewellers Final (520m, race eight), with hot newcomer Rainmaker Lass looking a strong chance.

She scored her fifth victory from eight starts at Wentworth Park last Saturday with a solid 30.09 run from the same draw.

The final, which carries $25,000 to the winner, is next Saturday.
