Sweeney Appeal Upheld In Part

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) advises that the Racing Appeals Tribunal has announced its decision on the appeal by trainer Beverly Sweeney against a penalty imposed by GRNSW stewards for a breach of Gar 83(2) (a) and Gar 84A(4) (b).

Ms Sweeney appealed against the severity of the five month disqualification imposed for breaching Gar 83(2) (a) after she presented Gus’s Gift to compete in race 2, the Newcastle Greyhound Stakes, at The Gardens meeting on 27 February 2015 other than free of any prohibited substance in that the urine sample taken from the greyhound after the race was found on confirmatory analysis to contain 5beta-androstane-3alpha, 17beta-diol at a concentration greater than 10 nanograms per mil taken from the bitch.

Ms Sweeney also appealed against the severity of a $200 fine imposed for breaching Gar 84A(4) (b) after she was found to be in possession of the Schedule 4 substance Testoprop when a kennel inspection at her premises was undertaken by a GRNSW steward on 8 May 2015.

The tribunal upheld the appeal in part and amended the penalty to a three month disqualification and $1000 fine for the breach of Gar 83(2) (a) and a $200 fine for the breach of Gar 84A(4) (b).

A total of 50% of Ms Sweeney’s appeal deposit was refunded.
