Susannah Cargo To Shine At Bathurst

By Stuart Turner

Ron Steel believes Susannah Cargo is the pick of his three impressive contenders in the On Course Functions Available Stakes (race six, 450m) at Bathurst today.

Steel has kennelmates Betsie Cargo, Susannah Cargo and Suzi Cargo jumping from boxes six, seven and eight respectively and there looks little to choose between the trio.

The three have won a combined total of 44 races for Steel, including multiple wins at Bathurst.

Betsie Cargo is the fastest on paper but Steel is leaning towards Susannah Cargo, who is unbeaten from her two previous starts from box seven and won her only previous run over the 450m.

“Suzi Cargo is probably drawn a bit wider than I would like,” he said.

Betsie (Cargo) loves the six and she is the fastest of them on paper over the 450m. I would have her as the underdog of these three (though).

“Susannah Cargo is the quickest over the first sectional and with her form right now, I just fancy her.

“It’s her first run over the 450m for a while so it wouldn’t surprise me if she ran out of puff, but I reckon she can handle it. She’s my pick.”

Susannah Cargo has been a standout for Steel since debuting late last year, securing 17 wins and five minor placings from 28 starts.

She has won her last four starts and has a terrific record at Bathurst, with seven victories from her 10 previous visits there.

Robert Hatton’s Mann She’s Fast (box four) has run the fastest time of this field over the 450m but has not win in four previous starts wearing the blue rug.

Musical Cargo (box seven) is another of Steel’s impressive greyhounds and she looks the pick in race eight.

She has won her last two starts at Bathurst with this draw and saluted over the 520m here last week.

In other action, a freshened-up Nangar Doll looks favourably drawn in box one to feature in race nine.

She ran three good races at Grafton in July, winning over the 407m on her second start in a solid 22.92.

Anthony Azzopardi’s Asa Viper (box three) won impressively on debut at Canberra earlier this month and with that form can win race seven.

In-form Jono’s Pengala (box six) has won three of his last four starts and looks the pick in race five.
