Crashing Packs Looking Four-Midable

By thedogs.com.au

In-form greyhounds Crashing Packs and former NSW boom pup Winsome Jacko aim to continue their winning ways at Saturday’s Mandurah meeting.

Crashing Packs jumps from box eight in the skyracing.tv (race five, 647m) seeking a fourth straight victory.

The son of Knocka Norris and Rock Pool extended his career record to 15 wins and 12 minor placings from 35 starts with a 37.01 triumph over the 647m last week.

He steps up in grade here but has a terrific record from the outside, with four wins from six starts wearing the pink rug.

“He has a chance of running 36.80 here,” trainer Steve Shinners said. “He ran well last week on a track that wasn’t conducive to fast times.

“He will have to begin better than last week, but he generally does after he’s had a look at a track.

“He should keep improving and for sure he can get across these and lead.”

Free Candy (box five) ran a super 36.71 last week while finishing runner-up behind classy Star Recall.

She will be favourite to take this one but has a mixed record from the squeeze box, with three wins and five minor placings from 10 starts.

Shinners’ kennel has been going well since he moved to Western Australia from Melbourne a year ago.

Crashing Packs was given to Shinners after struggling early in his career and has now won more than $40,000.

“He fitted in excellently and loved the surroundings,” Shinners said. “If you have that happy environment, your greyhounds will thrive.

“You’ve got to have that rapport with your greyhounds. He always gets his favourite treat if he wins.”

Winsome Jacko (box eight) has won back-to-back races after transferring to the kennels of gun trainer Paul Stuart and looks the top pick in race six.

He won in a track record 21.98 on debut at Maitland last year and has still built a decent career record of 10 wins and 10 minor placings from 30 starts.

The son of El Grand Senor and Ramblin’ Ruby won over the 490m in an improved time of 27.65 last week and was a Wentworth Park winner as recently as June.

Former kennelmate Winsome Warrior (box eight) won on his WA debut last week and in that form could salute in race 12.

A Wentworth Park winner in May, he has only had one previous unsuccessful start with the pink rug but should have the pace to cut across these and lead.

Royal Freddie (box one) is in good form, ran a strong 27.65 here on August 15 and looks the night’s best bet in race seven.
