Boom Pup Hay Fergus Returns At Bulli

Impressive newcomer Hay Fergus returns to Bulli on Friday afternoon, five weeks after his sensational debut at the Illawarra track.

Hay Fergus (pictured with connections) turned heads when he took 0.06 off Barcia Bale’s 400m Bulli track record of 22.20 in a performance trial in early July.

He backed that brilliant trial up with an equally impressive race debut over the same track/distance, in which he registered a 13 ¼ length win in a best of night 22.22.

Connections say he will be fit and ready for his assignment on Friday in which he will step up to the 472m in race four on the program.

Hay Fergus’s owner Deborah May, whose husband Brett trains Hay Fergus, said she was expecting a bold showing from their greyhound.

“We want to see how he goes over a bit of distance," she said.  "He loves the big track Bulli and has obviously run fast here.

“He has not trialled over this distance and he may be a touch underdone, but if he gets out in front I doubt he’ll be caught.

It has been an exciting time for the NSW Hunter Valley-based Mays, who put attending races on hold for a few weeks recently after the arrival of their 10th grandchild.

Deborah May though is excited about the prospect of returning to Bulli on Friday afternoon.

“I cannot wait for this run, but I’ll be nervous as always," she said.

"I fall in love with our greyhounds. I feel like a mother to them, so I always get nervous.”

In other action at Bulli, Anthony Azzopardi’s in-form Kevin In Bangkok is a good chance from box two in a strong race six (400m).

He has been mixing his form of late but looks to be a well drawn and should feature prominently.

Debutant greyhound He’s Some Love has trialled well over the 400m here, including a 22.53 recent effort, and on that form can salute from box five in the night’s opening race.
