In-form greyhounds Magical Yessam and Black Audit look the main chances at tonight’s strong Grafton meeting.
Magical Yessam jumps from box five in the Caldwell Electrical Final Maiden Stakes (407m, race seven) aiming to secure back-to-back victories.
The Greg Stella-trained greyhound drew box five last week but that did not stop him scoring a convincing 23.05 win, coming home by almost 10 lengths.
Stella said he had not been surprised by that run and is quietly confident of another victory tonight.
“He has always shown ability,” Stella said.
“He has no luck on his first start at Ipswich, but I knew he was handy. He’s not a brilliant beginner but he has good pace.
“Grafton is a great track for young pups because of the lovely straight run to the first corner. It seems to suit him.
“The greyhound under him in box four (Nadruku) is quick and the seven greyhound (Kidatee Dan) went well last week, so they both look threats, but my greyhound seems to be improving with every race.
“I’m optimistic.”
Stella has been training full-time from his south-east Queensland base of Park Ridge for almost 25 years
“I still enjoy getting up in the mornings,” he said. “I enjoy working with the young dogs and seeing how good they can become.
“Greyhounds are lovely natured animals and terrific to work with.
“We’ve had some good country class greyhounds and I enjoy looking for and developing that next handy one.”
Black Audit has been below-par on his last two starts since winning at Maitland in July but looks the best in race nine.
This year’s Westlawn Finance Stayers Cup winner at Grafton has four victories from seven starts at the track.
He jumps from box eight, from which he has won two of his three previous starts.
Corindi Flash was well beaten here last start but has trialled well previously and looks the night’s best bet in race two.
Josefina (race three) has slightly disappointed since scoring a super 17.53 win here on debut but seems well drawn in box one.
