Hot Pup Nymeria Returns At Dapto

By Stuart Turner

Ken Burnett believes his promising young greyhound Nymeria can return from a long layoff with a win at Dapto on Thursday night.

The daughter of Spring Gun and Sierra Lee, who has not been since an impressive win on debut at Wentworth Park, jumps from box six in the World Famous Dapto Dogs 1-3 Heats (520m, race three).

Nymeria suffered a leg injury while winning in 30.06 at Wentworth Park in May, with her return further delayed due a toe knock.

Despite the setbacks, Burnett said Nymeria was in great shape ahead of her racing return.

“She’s ready to go,” he said.

“She’s been flying in trials. She went 22.20 (over the 400m) at Richmond, including 8.08 to the first corner.

“At Dapto it’s about getting round that first corner ahead. If she does that, she can win.

“I’m excited about her potential, but I’m not putting too much expectation on her. We know the ups and downs of racing (but) I can say she’s the fastest greyhound I’ve put a lead on.

“I don’t want to talk her up too much – I just want her racing to do the talking for me.”

Pearl’s Legacy (box five) looks the strongest opponent for Nymeria on Thursday night, having scored an impressive 30.00 win here last month.

She can be an unpredictable starter, but has a great engine and has saluted twice in five starts so far.

Two other in-form greyhounds, Fantastic Roxy and Superbly, also look capable of scoring wins in races six and eight respectively.

A litter sister to track record holder Fantastic Dotty, Fantastic Roxy (box seven) has scored five wins from her eight starts so far and has triumphed from both her previous starts with the green rug.

Superbly (box four) looks a good prospect for Craig Chappelow, having won two of his three starts so far.

The son of legendary Brett Lee and Surpassing had a super 30.05 win over the 520m at Dapto last week and should be at Wentworth Park soon.

Laugh With Mary (box one), meanwhile, has been a strong performer over the 700m for Harry Sarkis recently and looks the pick over the 600m in race seven.

She clocked a terrific 34.39 winning here over the 600m in June and won at Dapto impressively over the 729m earlier this month.
