Super Field Assembled For Black Top

By thedogs.com.au

Brad Hill Billy, impressive newcomer Good Odds Angel and this year’s Group 1 National Futurity winner Zipping Midge head the fields for Friday night’s Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Black Top (515m) heats at Unibet Gardens.

There are eight heats of The Black Top in total meaning there will no room for error with only the winner from each heat qualifying for next week’s $40,000-to-the-winner series.

Also competing will be Group 2 Maitland Cup winner Spacecraft, flying veteran Miner’s Moss and local star Camacho.

Spacecraft will be having his first start in almost a month on Friday, where he will take part in the first heat jumping from box four.

He will come up against Paua To Roar, who is having his first start at Unibet Gardens but is nicely drawn in box eight from which he has yet to miss a placing in five career starts.

Leading contender in heat two, meanwhile, is Elusive Zesta (box five) who ran a slick 29.69 here two starts back.

Brad Hill Billy will be looking to bounce back from two recent defeats in heat four. He is also debuting at Unibet Gardens but is unbeaten from two previous starts from box seven.

Miner’s Moss (box three) and Camacho in box five feature in heat five, with the former perhaps aiming for his seventh straight win.

The evergreen son of Magic Sprite and Bellbird Park will be having his 97th start but is arguably in the form of his life. He was a finalist here last year and has a strong record from box three, with five wins and two minor placings from 11 previous starts.

Zipping Midge (pictured, white rug) looks well drawn in box one to take out heat six where she will face super newcomer Good Odds Angel (box five).

Good Odds Angel is undefeated since winning the Group 3 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden at Unibet Gardens in July and could stamp herself as a future Group 1 performer if she performs well in this series.

For value punters, top roughies for the series include veteran Fire Elusive (box seven, heat five) and Karma Connie (box two, heat six).

Fire Elusive has 78 starts but has been a great performer for Mark Moroney and ran 29.77 on his last visit here in June.

Karma Connie has a good record at Unibet Gardens and has been running very solidly recently at various distances.

The Black Top heats will take place in a special Friday night timeslot for Unibet Gardens. The first race will jump at 7.18pm with the first Black Top heat taking place at 7.58pm (race three).
