Simpatico Simply Stunning For Smith

By Stuart Turner

Simpatico has become “the whole package” for Glenn Smith and he thinks she can score another win at Albion Park tonight.

The exciting newcomer jumps from box seven in the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club Stakes (520m) aiming for an eighth consecutive victory.

A daughter of Magic Sprite and Absolute Style, Simpatico’s run includes a super 29.79 triumph over the 520m here last month and a comfortable success at Capalaba (366m) last start.

Smith rates Simpatico, whose record now stands at nine wins and two minor placings from 14 starts, as the most exciting prospect he has seen in more than 40 years of training.

“She is certainly the fastest greyhound I’ve had,” he said.

“She was a bad starter at first but we’ve corrected that (and) she’s become the whole package.

“She has brilliant second sectional speed and she’s okay for the first sectional. She puts herself in a race and then flies.

“Your hopes can be ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ in greyhound racing so I’m not getting excited, but she’s looking good.”

The strongest opponent here looks like Heidi Benz, winner of this year’s Group 2 Vince Curry Memorial at Ipswich.

She has been lightly raced since then but seems to be hitting form again.

Simpatico defeated her by more than ten lengths here earlier this month, though, and won her only previous start from box seven.

Cervelo (box eight) is a fast starter who is also in strong form but Simpatico looks the strongest here.

Smith also tipped his handy pup Shifty Seine (box three) to score him another win in race one.

The son of Barcia Bale and River Seine scored a good 30.43 win here earlier this month and seems to be rapidly improving.

Norm The Storm (box three) ran a brilliant 29.77 here last week and looks the best bet of the night in race two.

Fellow NSW Northern Rivers hopeful Mincin’ Machine is in super form, with four wins from his last six races.

He ran a terrific 29.79 last week from box four and has the same draw here in race six.

Endless Shadow is unbeaten in two previous starts with the red rug and has drawn box one in the night’s ninth race.

John Ludd’s greyhound has run consistently well over the last two months and can win again here.
