White Aiming For Another Win At Goulburn

By Stuart Turner

Cumberland Black fulfilled Goulburn trainer Wayne White’s dreams earlier this year and the consistent veteran can score another win on his home track this afternoon.

The greyhound, who earned the biggest win of White’s career back in June with victory in the $20,000-to-the-winner GBOTA Sprint Series Final, jumps from box one in the Masters Stakes (440m, race 10).

Cumberland Black has continued to run well after that notable triumph, including scoring another win over the 440m at Canberra last month and winning at Bulli last Friday.

White said his greyhound’s success was down to good old-fashioned TLC.

“My wife loves him to death because he is such a fantastically good-natured greyhound,” White said after that win.

“When we put all the other dogs out, he is always the last to come out. He doesn’t get out of bed until you open the gate and put the lead on him to go out.

“He is four-and-a-half and was giving some of those greyhounds two years (in the final), but still beat them.

“It just shows that no matter a greyhound’s age, if you treat them with care they can race well and will look after you.”

Cumberland Black is approaching 100 starts but in current form should be too good for them here.

He was very impressive while scoring his two-length win at Bulli and the inside draw should be favourable.

White should also score a win here with Changing Points (box two) in race two.

The greyhound is yet to win in eight starts but is knocking on the door with improved form recently.

Natural Player has to be the best bet of the day in race eight (350m) after rediscovering his best form recently.

Mark Wilcox’s greyhound has been a star of NSW country tracks for the last two years, with 31 wins and 12 minor placings from 55 starts.

A month’s break after a slightly below-par spell seems to have rejuvenated Natural Player, who has recorded back-to-back wins since returning.

Others to be on here include Michael Clayton’s Thor’s Mistress (race three), a previous winner at Goulburn who has been racing consistently recently.

Where’s Pip (race five) returned to form with a decent hit-out last start at Richmond and can win here over the 350m.
