Camden Valleyway Aims To Ride High Again

By Stuart Turner

Doug Rogers says Camden Valleyway’s success has been “like a fairytale” – and he is hoping she can write another winning chapter at Gosford on Tuesday.

The in-form greyhound jumps from box seven in the Ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (515m, race five) looking a great chance to make it nine wins from 13 starts.

Rogers bred Camden Valleyway, a daughter of College Causeway and Camden Blue, and sold her to a Melbourne participant as a pup.

She did not take to life in Victoria and returned to Rogers’ south-west Sydney base shortly afterwards – and has since gone from strength-to-strength.

“I give my greyhounds a lot of love and affection,” owner-trainer Rogers said. “Maybe when she was down there she thought, ‘I want to go home’.

“The way she came back and has done so well – it’s almost like a fairytale.

“It just shows there’s no key to it - you just don’t know how things will turn out.

“She may not be a champion, but she is a super ‘racing’ greyhound. She is totally focused all the time and does her best.

“I couldn’t be happier with her.”

Camden Valleyway has been a star since winning on debut over the 535m at Richmond in March.

She won again on her last start at Wentworth Park, beating a decent field in 30.09.

Camden Valleyway loves Gosford, having won three of her five visits to the NSW Central Coast track and clocking a best of 29.63 there in May.

She won her only previous start from box seven and looks too strong here.

“Her mother won eight races at Gosford and she’s taken to it like a duck to water too,” Rogers said.

“If she starts well here and gets to the lead, I think it will be all over.

“She has won from almost every box already. That tells me she is she is a very consistent greyhound.

“She just always runs straight, whatever the draw.

“I have bred some good greyhounds over the years but she is probably the most exciting one I’ve had.”

Funny Bone disappointed at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but can bounce back with victory in the night’s feature event (race six, 600m).

She ran superbly in last week’s heats and is formidable over the 600m.

Flamin’ Go and Sugar Hit Heidi are both classy types at their best and look the picks in races seven and eight respectively.
