Nero Bolt Aims To Strike Again

By Stuart Turner

Nero Bolt looks the standout in WA National Sprint action at Mandurah while five-time Group winner Space Star returns to action in Victoria.

Nero Bolt jumps from box two in the fourth and final National Sprint heat (490m, race nine) aiming to continue his electrifying recent form.

The son of Lochinvar Marlow and Lochinvar Coco has won his last four races – all at Mandurah over the 490m - to extend his career record to 15 wins and five minor placings from 32 starts.

His latest win came here last week, when he zoomed home by almost eight lengths in 27.46.

Nero Bolt, who finished a neck behind runner-up and gun Victorian Dyna Double One while placing in the recent Group 2 WA Derby, has hit top form since switching to the 490m at Mandurah and is usually reliable from the inside boxes.

He is the joint-fastest on paper here alongside nippy starter Jabba Da Pup (box one) but should be able to come home strong for the win.

Others to back in the WA Sprint titles are former top Victorian Ollie Bale (race six), West On Teddy and Fun Boss in race eight.

Fun Boss was the winner of the Group 2 WA Derby earlier this year and, although drawn badly here, is in good form and should win.

Picks for the three WA Distance heats over the 647m are Houdini Monelli (race three), Sitar Monelli and Group winner Star Recall in race five.

In other action at Mandurah, Pilgrim’s Prince (race one) and Derecho in race 11 look decent value chances.

Meanwhile, Australia’s leading stayer Space Star (pictured, pink rug) returns after more than two months on the sidelines in Saturday night’s Victorian Stayer heats.

Robbie Britton’s star greyhound jumps from box eight in the seventh race of the night, a second heat of the Victorian Stayer titles over 725m.

Lady Toy (box seven) looks tough to stop but Space Star is always formidable out wide and has to be the favourite.

The first heat features multiple group winner Sweet It Is (box seven) who should have the measure of Group 1 winner Dzeko in box six.
