Chevy Prince Looks Ready To Rule

By Stuart Turner

Prized asset Chevy Prince, who was purchased for a reported $70,000, looks ready to claim the first major title of what could be a golden career this evening.

Jason Mackay’s boom pup, one of NSW’s most exciting prospects, jumps from box one in the Group 3 Laurie Healion MEmorial Maiden (515m, race eight) decider at Unibet Gardens and is the clear favourite.

The son of Fabregas and Chevy Princess earned a sensational 29.66 win in last week’s sEmi-finals, cruising home by seven lengths, and is the standout pick to secure the $25,000 top prize.

Chevy Prince is one of the first greyhounds to be owned by the renowned horse racing syndicate group Australian Bloodstock.

The group part-owned 2014 Melbourne Cup winning thoroughbred Protectionist and reportedly paid $70,000 for Chevy Prince.

He is pricing at $1.50 with Sportsbet and rightly looks the overwhelming favourite.

The Frank Hurst-trained Good Odds Angel (box seven) beat Chevy Prince in the heats, however, and must be considered here.

Good Odds Angel backed up his super 29.64 heat run with a solid win in tricky conditions last week and can test Chevy Prince if the latter starts poorly.

There looks little to choose between Mackay’s other two hopefuls, Zipping Comet (box two) and sister Zipping Sasha in box four.

The daughters of Magic Sprite and Pink Bandanna, ran virtually identical times in last week’s sEmi-finals and look to have reasonable chances here.

Inks Honor (box three) did superbly to qualify last week as a $44.30 shot but will surely need luck on his side to challenge.

Basque (box five) followed up her 29.97 heat win with another good run last week and looks probably the best value pick at $15 with Sportsbet.

Shesa Felon was a terrific 29.56 winner in the heats and backed that up with a third place finish in the sEmi-finals.

This draw offers no favours but she looks a definite chance for the podium.

Unpretentious (box eight) ran a very good race to win her heat last week – a first victory in nine starts.

DEAN Swain’s greyhounds are a threat anywhere but she ran very wide last week and would need some luck to cross her rivals on the inside.

The final goes at 6.07pm (NSW time).

In other action on the 11-race card, Group winners Zipping Midge and Lightest Touch are the ones to back in races five and six respectively.

For some value, Silver Steel (race one) and Weekend Wes in race three look tEmpting.

The final goes at 6.07pm (NSW time).
