Black Audit Facing Big Test At Lismore

By Stuart Turner

Boom pup Black Audit faces another test of her promising career at Lismore tonight and trainer Dave Irwin is eager to assess her progress.

The daughter of Collision and Sassy Sprite, who has won six of her nine starts so far, jumps from box two in the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Jackpot (race five, 635m).

Black Audit earned her latest impressive win over the 565m at Maitland last week when she defeated a decent field of middle distance contenders including Zipping Spike.

This is her first career start over 635m and Irwin thinks tonight should be a good test of his greyhound’s credentials.

“She’s got a chance, but this is a tough race,” he said. “It’s a fair stepping stone for her.

“We’ve been lucky as she’s been on the bunny every time so far. If she doesn’t get caught up in any trouble early then she should do okay.

“She’s got plenty of early pace which should help here, but this is a good test for her.”

This is a second visit to Lismore for Black Audit after her 30.38 victory over the 520m there back in May.

Since then her impressive record includes beating a strong field to win the $6000-to-the-winner  Westlawn Finance Stayers Cup (610m) at Grafton’s winter carnival earlier this month.

She jumped excellently from box one at Maitland last week and produced a strong finish to hold off Zipping Spike by a couple of lengths in a strong 31.75.

Renatus (box four) and Price Rise in box five both look dangerous but in current form Black Audit should win this.

“She’s going well, but there’s lots of questions to be answered first,” Irwin said. “There’s a big difference between where she’s at now and being a city class stayer.

“Having a greyhound like her in the kennel certainly makes it easier getting up in the morning. It’s always good to have a good prospect to work with.

“She’s still very young (so) we’ll keep moving her up and see how she goes.”

In other action at Lismore, in-form Jessie Small (box three) looks the pick in race nine.

Brad Northfield’s greyhound has won her last two starts over the 411m at Casino and should salute again here.

Promising Miss Spritely (box eight) clocked a terrific 24.25 for the 420m here last week and a repeat should see her win race 10.

Lachie Lyndan and Thoracic look strong chances in races six and eight respectively.
