Crystal Looking To Shine At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Lika Crystal is building an impressive record and looks drawn to improve that at Nowra today.

Denice Warren’s greyhound, who has won three of her first four starts, jumps from box one in the classicbet.com.au 1-2 Final (365m, race three).

This will be the first time Lika Crystal has the red rug after a quartet of starts from the middle boxes.

She has not been a lid-pinger so far but Warren believes the inside draw could be a big help.

“It’s the first decent draw she’s had,” the trainer said with a laugh.

“This draw should help but having said that she is not the best beginner. She wants to crash to the fence but she’s not the fastest out of the boxes.

“She’s made her own luck so far (though) and she must have a chance of winning here.”

Lika Crystal finished runner-up on debut at Nowra on June 1 but has been unstoppable since then, racking up three consecutive wins.

Gorilla Army (box four) is in good form and looks a threat, while box two’s Trackless Tram is inconsistent but also dangerous.

In current form, though, Lika Crystal should get the win.

The daughter of Magic Sprite and High Maintanence won here over the 365m last week in a decent 20.82 and is part of a promising litter that also includes Lika Storm and Lika Zircon.

“I’m happy to be working with them,” Warren said.

“I’m not sure if Lika Crystal will go over the 500m but at this stage she couldn’t have done much more for me.

“I don’t think she’s outstanding but she’s doing everything right.”

Recent GBOTA Challenge Sprint winner Cumberland Black (box five), who is racing superbly at the moment, looks a strong chance in race seven.

Wayne White’s veteran greyhound has won three of his last four starts, including his $20,000-to-the-winner triumph at Wentworth Park last month.

Colin Williams has scored some notable wins recently and the Nowra Hill trainer can secure another victory with Gin Blossum (box one) in the 10th race.

The daughter of El Grand Senor and Sideshow Alley has a couple of strong wins over the 365m at Nowra to her name and should be the best here.

Others to back at Nowra today look like Phil Goodsell’s promising pup Fire Inside in race two and Rose Of Oamaru (race six).
