Chevy Prince Aims To Rule Laurie Healion

By Stuart Turner

Prized asset Chevy Prince and promising Mulwee Dream are among the standouts in the Group 3 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden (515m) heats.

Six heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner series take place at Unibet Gardens this Saturday, featuring some of NSW’s most promising newcomers.

Gun trainer Jason MACKAY has four of his new pups in action, with Chevy Prince (box six) one to watch in race four.

The son of notable sire Fabregas and Chevy Princess, who had four wins from nine starts, Chevy Prince has trialled impressively so far and looks an eye-catching prospect.

He clocked a flying 24.98 during a 450m PT at Maitland last Thursday and could be the next star for MACKAY.

As an indicator of his potential, Chevy Prince is owned by renowned leading thoroughbred syndication group Australian Bloodstock.

The group are part-owners of 2014 Melbourne Cup winning thoroughbred Protectionist and Chevy Prince is part of their first venture into greyhound racing.

Company principals Luke Murrell and Jamie Lovett, who is an old mate of MACKAY, are believed to have purchased Chevy Prince for $70,000.

His strongest rival should be Frank Hurst's Good Odds Angel (box two), who looks a strong greyhound based on her recent 31.07 run at Richmond.

The DEAN Swain-trained Mulwee Dream also looks a promising prospect after clocking 29.86 for a 515m PT at Gosford last month.

A son of Spring Gun and Teenage Dream, he jumps from box seven in the day’s eighth race.

The Craig Chappelow-trained Pass Lee (box six) features in race nine and is another eye-catching contender.

He is a son of legendary Brett Lee and Surpassing, who won six races for Chappelow and clocked decent times for the 600m at Dapto in her time.

Others to watch on Saturday also include the MACKAY-trained Zipping Comet (race five) and Ron Bell's Top Caliber (race six), who has shown steady improvement with every PT and ran 29.97 over the 515m at Unibet Gardens last month.

The semi-finals of the three-week series take place next Friday, with the final seven days later.

Lightest Touch took out last year’s crown for NSW Mid-North Coast trainer Jean Lewis, winning the final in 29.75.
