Bessy Boo Scores Another Win

By Jeff Collerson

The irrepressible Bessy Boo joined the $200,000 club by recording his 26th win from 86 starts in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Free For All at Wentworth Park.

When the Christine Proctor-trained greyhound came from last at the first turn to gun down pacemakers Dear Darcey and Knight Sprite, he took his earnings to $203,380.

Bessy Boo (pictured0 is owned by first time owner Ashley Wilson, who was gifted the greyhound as an engagement present from a family friend.

While Bessy Boo can sprint and stay his connections have always maintained he is not a true 720m greyhound and they have been proved correct, with Saturday's win his 13th over the Wentworth Park 520m trip.

Last year's Peter Mosman Classic winner is now set for a tilt at next month's National Sprint Championship series, with the 2015 final slated for Wentworth Park on August 22.
Also tackling the NSW heats of the National Sprint following Saturday night's Wentworth Park fixture could be Ryley Sams, who posted a fastest time of the night 29.68 in winning a fourth and fifth grade event.

The son of former Wentworth Park star Navada Sunrise led throughout for an easy win for owner Gary Oldfield and trainer Bruce King.

"I think he deserves a chance at the Nationals although obviously that is going to be a big task,'' King said on Saturday night.

"I have not trained a greyhound so clean winded as Ryley Sams and he wouldn't blow out a candle after a 520m race so I think later he is capable of going further than 520m.

"After all, his mother Navada Sunrise won over 720m at Wentworth Park.''

Meanwhile, Magic Spring will target heats of a 2-5 wins series at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night after his brilliant all-the-way 29.98 success, his third in five Wentworth Park outings, on Saturday night.

Magic Spring posted blistering first and second splits of 5.33 and 13.75 and went to the line full of running.

"Wednesday's heats look perfect for him because he will be racing against his own class,'' trainer Noelene Holloway said on Saturday night.

Former Tasmanian Brad Hill Billy, who was beaten at his previous five Wentworth Park starts after drawing boxes five, six and eight, overcame another unsuitable draw to win a 520m fifth grade on Saturday night.

Owned by former leading Tasmanian pigeon flyer Joe Pringle and now trained at FORBES by Ray Smith, Brad Hill Billy produced one of the runs of the night to win on Saturday.

While his time was a moderate 30.26 he collided at the start and was checked twice while attempting to reach the rails from his awkward box seven draw.

"He nearly brought himself undone again,'' quipped a relieved Ray Smith after Brad Hill Billy finally found the rails to run down wide running pacemaker Billysoar.

There were some cracking performances among the beaten division on Saturday night at Wentworth Park.

Outlaw Jack came from last to finish second in the opening event and would have won had he not been blocked for a rails run and forced to switch to the outside approaching the home bed.

Smart Missile bombed the start and came from last to beat all but Ryley Sams while Lithgow Panther was also last at box rise and was run off the track by a wide runner before finishing second to Laugh With Mary in Saturday night's only 720m event.

Put that trio in your blackbook for the future and see you next week!
