Slick Showing Expected At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

A near track record trial at Wagga on Sunday points to Little">Little Bit Slick being ready to lead all the way in Saturday night's Race Sponsorships Online Stakes at Wentworth Park.

Little Bit Slick is unbeaten in two starts wearing the red rug and will exit box one again on Saturday.

"She is flying at present,'' trainer Peter Sims said. "In her 400m Wagga trial she clocked 22.92 and posted a sectional time of 10.60 which is absolutely airborne.''

Little Bit Slick's Wagga time was only .18 outside the long-standing track record and while she was run down after leading at her most recent Wentworth Park race she is tipped to get to the line more strongly on Saturday.

"She led all the way to win in 29.94 at Wentworth Park on June 8 and when she was run down by Star Of Ibrox in 30.09 four nights later Little Bit Slick was having her third hard race in a week'' Sims said.

"I believe that may have taken the edge off her finish when Star Of Ibrox beat her, especially as that greyhound is particularly strong at the end of his races.''

The duel for the role of pacemaker between Twist Me Over and Magic Spring in Saturday night's AAA Radiator Specialists Final should be an absorbing contest.

Twist Me Over (box one) has the advantage in the draw over Magic Spring (box four) but the latter posted slightly faster sectional and overall times in last week's heats.

"I gave him a run up the straight on Tuesday to top him off for Saturday night," Magic Spring's trainer Noelene Holloway said.

"Box four should not be a problem because Magic Spring usually runs straight from the boxes to the first corner.''

Garry Edwards, trainer of Twist Me Over, continues to be surprised by his greyhound's newly acquired stamina.

"Early in her career Twist Me Over was a speed squib who would hit a brick wall after going 450 metres,'' Edwards said. "But now she has won three of five Wenty 520m races and I believe her heat run will improve her.

"When she contested her heat on July 4 Twist Me Over was having her first 520m hit-out in 12 days.''

Twist Me Over's kennelmate Shady Ace is strongly fancied to notch her third Wentworth Park win in the wentworthpark.com.au Stakes.

She followed two successive Wentworth Park victories with a luckless third in a blistering 29.64sec behind Jewel Action on July 4.

Shady Ace drew box eight in that race and after being badly hampered while attempting to cross to the rails she clipped the heels of the second placed greyhound leaving the back straight.

"When that happened I thought Shady Ace would drop out and miss a place but she knuckled down and finished strongly to run third,'' Edwards said.

Jewel Action (pictured, red rug) has been flying recently and should be able to defeat a quality field from box two in race eight.

A drop in class should put Serena Fly High back in the winner's circle after Saturday night's $10 Wenty Winter Warmer Stakes.

The Amy Bennett-trained greyhound had no luck when seventh, from box seven, in Jewel Action's WP race on July 4 and looks well positioned in box two here.

"It doesn't matter whether Serena Fly High draws inside or outside as long as she doesn't get crowded early by speed dogs on her inside or outside,'' Bennett said.

"The first ten steps are what counts for her because when she hits the ground she hits it hard.

"This race looks a lot easier than last week's.''

Although Billysoar (box one) is a wide runner, he doesn't possess Serena Fly High's early pace and while Cosmic Swiper in box three is fast early, she uses a bit of the track.
