Returning Gralin Fit And Firing

By Jeff Collerson

Gralin">Gralin has bounced back to form after a long break away from the track and is ready to repeat a smart Wentworth Park trial from last September when he contests tonight's opening race at the Glebe circuit.

Now trained by Russell Mansley, Gralin has box five but has the pace needed to overcome his awkward draw.

The greyhound finished down the course in three races at Unibet Gardens in May but led throughout to win there in a tidy 30.10 and 29.93 on June">June 12 and 19.

"He was in a paddock for six months so it took a while to get him back to form,'' Mansley said. "But he has raced well at his past two starts and in both races showed good early speed.''

When he contested a stewards' trial at Wentworth Park on September 8 Gralin led all the way to beat Locksmith by three lengths in a slick 30.05.

But it was the dog's brilliant initial splits of 5.39 and 13.77 which make him look a great value bet in Wednesday's fifth grade event.

Seven Jacks suffered a hairline fracture of the hock at Gosford on April 28 but is trialling well for his return to racing in Wednesday night's eighth race at Wentworth Park.

Seven Jacks has box two and looks the main danger to hot favourite, the Jason Fletcher-trained Fantastic Spiral, box four.

"My dog led Adam Wade's good dog Army Surplus in the 600m race at Gosford but just when I expected him to kick away he faded to finish third,'' Seven Jacks' trainer David Taylor said.

"After the race we discovered the hock injury but he is fit and well again.

"He has been trialling nicely up the straight and last Saturday I gave him a circle trial around Glengarrie and Seven Jacks went extra well.''

Kempsey trainer Nathan Goodwin concedes Fantastic Tail will be hard to beat in race nine on Wednesday night at Wentworth Park but gives his dog Cobber In Motion a good chance of causing an upset.

"My fellow is an ordinary beginner but he musters speed quickly, is perfectly drawn in box one and is flying at present,'' Goodwin said.

"Jason Fletcher's bitch Fantastic Tail is obviously very smart but she has box four and if she puts a foot wrong Cobber In Motion can win.

"When Cobber In Motion won over 515m at The Gardens in 29.65 on June 26 his run home time was very good.''

One Hill">Hill's trainer Charlie Lamb admits he is concerned that his dog will go into Wednesday night's Gardens To Wenty Final without a trial on the Glebe course.

"My dog went well in his heat win at The Gardens last Friday and usually there is a decent gap before the final which allows time to get down to Wentworth Park and trial,'' Lamb said. "But obviously with the heats only five days before the final I haven't had the opportunity to give One Hill a look at Wenty.

"He is still a chance though because despite being a moderate beginner, for a big dog he is a terrific railer so box two will suit him.''

Jason Fletcher could be in for a big night because while Fantastic Spiral and Fantastic Tail have strong chances their kennelmate Fantastic Roxy appeals as the meeting's standout bet in race 10.

Fantastic Roxy is unbeaten in two races at Wentworth Park and after leading throughout to win in 29.94 on debut she overcame difficulties to score in 30.15 on June 22.
