Deeborose Goes for The Hat-Trick

By Jeff Collerson

Deeborose will be Wentworth Park bound if she can notch a winning hat-trick in race three at Nowra this afternoon.

The Garry Edwards-trained greyhound 29.90 over 520m at Nowra on June 22 - the fastest time of the meeting - before claiming time honours for last Monday's card with an even quicker 29.86 performance.

"I can't get over how much Deeborose has improved," Edwards said.

"Last November she came in season. it took five months to get her right after that.

The wait has been worth it because she has come back a much better greyhound.

"If she goes well at Nowra I'll take her to Wentworth Park for a trial with a view to giving her a race there."

Spring James, who is chasing his fifth win in six starts at Warragul tomorrow night, is a sure fire future Wentworth Park winner for Londonderry trainer Anthony Azzopardi.

Spring James has been racing in Victoria during his trainer's current south of the border campaign, beginning with a win over 425m at Bendigo on June 26 followed by a Ballarat 450m victory last Wednesday.

Tomorrow night Spring James, who has dazzling early speed, goes around in race five at Warragul over 460m.

And while Spring James has not raced beyond 450m, owner Amanda Stollery says she has no doubt the dog will run a strong 520m at Wentworth Park.

She purchased the greyhound after he had scored a win and a second at the Coonamble Spring Carnival last October.

Stollery, the daughter of Wentworth Park bookmaker Mark Stollery, also owns the promising Nobu, who made a sensational racetrack debut in a 400m performance trial at Bulli on Friday night.

Trained by Christine Oldfield, the unraced Nobu led throughout to cover the 400m in 22.43, a startling performance considering Phil Goodsell's outstanding Stilton Blue won on the same night in 22.48.

And while Nobu showed great pace to win his 400m trial, Stollery believes he will be even better over a longer trip.

"His run home time at Bulli was 6.44 and that was really encouraging because Stilton Blue, who runs a strong 520m, ran home in 6.56sec in his 400m win.''

Con Hansimikali, who raced former champion Fancy DEAN in partnership with Socceroo star Tim Cahill, was an interested spectator at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Hansimikali bought Fancy DEAN from western districts breeder Dennis Barnes and saw the dog win 29 of 85 races in 2011 and 2012 for $157,000 in stakes.

"I have been out of dogs since Fancy DEAN but a few months back bought a couple of nice pups from Dennis Barnes and they have been broken in and are shaping up nicely,'' Hansimikali said.

"Cliff Bell, who won with Where's Ramsay at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, will be training my pups.''

Wally Lutiger, who trained Fancy DEAN, is in poor health and has had to retire from greyhound racing.

Lithgow Panther returns to middle distance racing from box one in a 600m event at Gosford tomorrow night.

The John Chapman-trained dog has had 33 starts for 14 wins and 11 placings but was run down by Laugh With Mary over 720m at his most recent outing at Wentworth Park on June 27.

"He has had a hard campaign so I thought I would ease him back in distance and give him a few middle distance runs before bringing him back to the 720 metres trip,'' Chapman said yesterday.

"The Gosford race looks perfect for him.''
