Chevy Prince Looking Ready To Reign

By Stuart Turner

Prized asset Chevy Prince looks ready to claim the first major title of what could be a golden career in Friday’s Group 3 Laurie Healion MEmorial Maiden (515m, race eight) decider.

The boom pup, who clocked a superb 29.64 in wet conditions at Unibet Gardens in last week’s sEmi-finals, jumps from box one in the $22,500-to-the-winner final.

Chevy Prince, one of the first greyhounds to be owned by the renowned horse racing syndicate group Australian Bloodstock, confirmed his status as a pup to watch with a storming seven-length win in difficult conditions last week.

The daughter of Fabregas and Chevy Princess looks the latest star from Jason MACKAY's gun NSW Hunter Valley kennel kennel.

Australian Bloodstock owned 2014 Melbourne Cup winning thoroughbred Protectionist and reportedly paid $70,000 for Chevy Prince.

The big danger to Chevy Prince looks like Good Odds Angel (box seven), who ran 29.64 while finishing ahead of MACKAY’s greyhound in the heats two weeks ago.

Good Odds Angel has gone even faster in trials according to trainer Frank Hurst and was an impressive sEmi-final winner, taking advantage of a scrimmage to win in 30.18

A MACKAY trifecta is a possible as he other two eye-catching hopefuls, Zipping Comet (box two) and sister Zipping Sasha in box four, in contention.

Both are daughters of Magic Sprite and Pink Bandanna, ran virtually identical times in last week’s sEmi-finals and look to have reasonable chances here.

Inks Honor (box three) did superbly to qualify last week as a $44.30 shot but will surely need luck on his side to challenge.

Basque (box five) followed up her 29.97 heat win with another good run last week and looks a placing contender.

Shesa Felon was a terrific 29.56 winner in the heats and backed that up with a third place finish in the sEmi-finals.

This draw offers no favours but she looks a good each way chance.

Unpretentious (box eight) ran a very good race to win her heat last week – a first victory in nine starts.

DEAN Swain’s greyhounds are a threat anywhere but she ran very wide last week and would need some luck to cross her rivals on the inside.

The final is part of an 11-race card and goes at 6.07pm (NSW time).
