Cleanser Aiming For Winning Return

By Stuart Turner

Cleanser’s path to potential stardom has had its problems but trainer Garry Williams believes his greyhound could make a spectacular return at Goulburn today.

The exciting pup (pictured), who clocked a brilliant 29.50 on debut at Dapto earlier this year over the 520m, jumps from box six in the Goulburn to Bulli Sprint Event heats (race 7, 457m).

Cleanser’s progress since that fantastic opening run has been hampered by injury, which has kept him off the track since May.

He is now back to full fitness and trainer Garry Williams has high hopes his greyhound today.

Everything seems to be back on course, fingers crossed,” Williams said.

“Has had two trials at Goulburn recently and done superbly. I couldn’t have asked for more.

“He has pulled up well and I would expect him to win here – and maybe go for the track record too.”

Cleanser became the talk of NSW racing and was the subject of six-figure bids when he stormed to that 15-length victory over 520m on debut at Dapto in April.

Things have been problematic since then, though, with Cleanser finishing fifth and sixth in his subsequent two outings at Dapto and Wentworth Park.

He has spent the last few weeks recovering from metatarsal inflammation and looks back to his best now.

“When he trialled 29.988 at Wentworth Park, that should have told me something was wrong,” Williams said. “He should have gone 29.50 there.

“We gave him a month off and that seems to have worked.

“I don’t like pre-empting things too much (but) I still think he could be something special.”

Cleanser should have enough class to get the money here, although Watta Pixie (box one) has run some decent races over the 457m.

Elsewhere at Goulburn, Anthony Hokin’s Let Me Out can shed his ‘nearly’ status with victory in race three.

The promising newcomer has run three consecutive runners-up placings so far but looks too good for the rest here.

JODIE Lord’s Ritza Roman looks ideally drawn in box one to win race four over 350m, while My Bella Rose (box four) is in decent form and can pip returning Encosta Deplente in race five over 357m.

Margaret Greer has enjoyed notable success at Goulburn recently and she looks good to score another win with Watta Barghest in race nine.
