Canon Looking To Fire Again

By Stuart Turner

Flying Canon Ruler looks a good each way chance as the curtain comes down on racing at Cannington on Saturday night.

This is the last meeting at the track before it is closed and relocated and some fantastic action is in store.

Canon Ruler jump from his favourite box one in a terrific race five (530m) which also includes including Group 2 winner Fun Boss (box two) and gun newcomer Party Hotshot in box seven.

Factor his terrific record of four wins and two placings from six starts with the red rug and Canon Ruler looks a tempter here for the $13,500 top prize, but trainer Dailly said success was a big ask.

“He’s really matured and developed and just keeps improving,” Dailly said.

“He ran well from box seven so he can jump and crash across, but he is very solid when he has the inside draw.

“(But) there’s no getting away from the fact that he is six lengths slower than Fun Boss and Party Hotshot at their  best. They are both quality greyhounds and quicker than mine.

“I’ll be doing backflips if he can win on Saturday night (but) I’m being realistic - we are relying on lady luck.”

Canon Ruler’s latest win came here last week when he clocked 30.79 winning over the 530m at Cannington.

He has a best of 30.59 here and with 11 wins and 12 minor placings from 41 starts, has developed into a solid greyhound.

Fun Boss is in great form himself with five victories in his last six outings, including pipping star Victorian Dyna Double One in last month’s Group 2 WA Derby.

He has a superb record from box two and if he can begin well here, he looks tough to beat.

Classy former Victorian stayer Blinker’s On won on debut here last week and should again be too good in race nine over 642m.

West On Jorgi (race eight) and Special Jim in race 10 both look drawn well wearing the red rug and may also provide decent value.

There looks little between Tick Bale (box one) and box four’s Expect A Guess in race four, but the latter had a good win last start over 647m and can repeat that triumph here.
