Elusive Desire Ready For Winter Cup Tilt

By Stuart Turner

Flying sprinter Elusive Desire has recovered from a health scare and is ready to fire in tomorrow night’s first of five heats of the Group 1 Garrard’s Winter Cup (520m) at Albion Park.

The recent Flying Amy Classic winner jumps from box six in the first of five terrific heats of the $100,000-to-the-winner series, aiming to continue his superb recent form.

Elusive Desire goes for a fourth consecutive win here but the opposition includes last year’s winner Flash Reality (box four) and gun Victorian Armed And Ready in box three.

The son of Cold Fusion and Elusive Angel was briefly struck down by kennel cough after his $25,000 Flying Amy triumph earlier this month  but owner-trainer Colin Graham said his sprinter is back in top fitness.

“I think it may have done him good to have had a week off,” Graham said. “I think he has a decent chance here.

“Flash Reality is a quality greyhound but he hasn’t gone as well recently as he has done. I’m sure Armed and Dangerous will be hard to beat (as well).

“I watched a couple of Flash Reality’s video’s and he seems to go off at the first turn.  That should give Armed and Ready some space – but won’t help mine.

“Having said that, mine is looking good (and) I’m sure he won’t disgrace himself.”

NSW Northern Rivers contender Elusive Desire’s victory in the Flying Amy was the biggest of his career and took his career record to 11 wins and seven minor placings from 27 starts.

He has now earned almost $70,000 in prize-money and with a best of 29.81 at Albion Park must be respected here.

Star Victorian and last Saturday night’s Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic runner-up Dyna Double One looks ideally drawn in box eight in the second heat.

Andrea Dailly’s greyhound is arguably the second best sprinter in the country at the moment behind Fernando Bale and looks the top series pick.

Kennelmate Dawkins Bale, this year’s Golden Easter Egg runner-up behind Fernando Bale  and a recent Group 2 Horsham Cup placegetter, looks a strong chance in heat two.

Top NSW hope and this year’s Group 1 National Futurity winner ZIPPING Midge (pictured) jumps from box eight in heat four.

Jason Mackay’s sprinter is in great form but will have to contend with top local hope Fabulous Storm.

Double Group 1 winner Keybow, who looks to be hitting top form at the right time for this series, goes in heat five.

This race also features hot Queensland newcomer Pop The CORK, who has been inconsistent recently but looks a potential star.
