Dyna Double One Heads Winter Cup Line-Up

By Stuart Turner

Peter Mosman Classic runner-up Dyna Double One, 2014 winner Flash Reality and top NSW star Zipping Midge head the list of contenders for Thursday’s heats of the Group 1 Garrard’s Winter Cup (520m).

Group race winners Keybow and Yogi Blue are also among the hopefuls for the five quality-packed heats of the $100,000-to-the-winner series at Albion Park.

Dyna Double One, who finished second behind superstar kennelmate Fernando Bale in last Saturday night’s Group 1 Peter Mosman decider at Wentworth Park, has drawn box eight for in the third heat.

This is a first visit to Albion Park for Andrea Dailly’s sprinter but he has a strong record from out wide and looks a hot chance for the series.

The Tony Brett-trained Flash Reality has drawn box four in the first heat and faces a possible series roughie, Elusive Desire (box six).

Colin Graham’s sprinter won last week’s Flying Amy Classic at Albion Park and could be a big threat here, although his preparations have been hampered by a bout of kennel cough.

The second heat looks a real toughie, with last year’s Group 2 Lismore Cup winner Yogi Blue (box seven) among some eye-catching contenders.

Swap Ya (box three) has won six of nine so far and has been an Albion Park star so far in his short career.

Lady Abigail (box five) ran a superb 29.93 here earlier this month and warrants respect, while another of the gun Dailly kennel, this year’s Golden Easter Egg and recent Horsham Cup placegetter, Dawkins Bale, jumps from box eight.

This year’s Group 1 National Futurity winner, Zipping Midge (pictured, white rug), who has won four of her last six starts, jumps from box eight in the fourth heat.

Jason Mackay’s greyhound ran a terrific 29.78 OVER 520m earlier this month at Wentworth Park but has yet to race at Albion Park.

Local hoper Fabulous Storm has been racing consistently at Albion Park OVER the last two months and looks tempting here from box six.

Keybow, who is now under the care of gun Queensland trainer Brett, jumps from box three in the fifth heat and may be finding form at the right time for the series.

A winner of the Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup in 2014 and the Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup at Albion Park last December, he has triumphed on his last two starts – both at Albion Park – in storming fashion.

Newcomer Pop The CORK (box eight) has an inconsistent recent record but is a devastating talent on his day.

With his 29.59 run here earlier this month still fresh in the memory, Peter Ruetschi’s sprinter looks arguably the top roughie chance of the series.
