Samuel Aiming To Be Number One

By Jeff Collerson

Although he finished sixth, One Samuel produced arguably the run of his career in a Group 1 Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic semi-final last week and looks a good winning chance at Wentworth Park tonight.

The promising sprinter (who will jump from box one) is poised to lead throughout in tonight's AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes (520m) in which he is looking to claim a third win in 12 starts.

In last Saturday night's fourth Peter Mosman semi-final, One Samuel chased Tullabung Honey to the end of the back straight.

No Donuts overtook the far less experienced and much younger One Samuel approaching the home bend and when that happened the 'baby' of the field dropped out of contention.

But the Carole Eaton-trained One Samuel will relish the drop in class into Friday night's race.

"Carole is more than happy with the good draw," her husband and fellow trainer Jeff said.

"One Samuel has a bit of talent but is still very green.

"He needs more racing to fulfil his potential but he can show good early speed if he is given a clear run to the first turn.''

With slow beginners Exterminator and Eleven Madison in boxes two and three, One Samuel should have no trouble making the pace on Friday and scoring his third win in seven Wentworth Park starts.

Wentworth Park rookie Blue Squirrel looms as the sole danger to hot favourite Remember Irene in Friday night's wentworthpark.com.au Stakes.

Justin King's Remember Irene is chasing a winning hat-trick and while she has led and been run down to be placed twice at Wentworth Park, she is now getting to the line more strongly.

"She might have lost a touch of her early speed but Remember Irene has definitely acquired more stamina,'' trainer King said.

Blue Squirrel has won three of his past five provincial races but trainer Elizabeth Bont disclosed yesterday that the dog knew his way around Wentworth Park.

"He had a trial at Wenty and he while his time was nothing extraordinary he went okay,'' Bont said.

"And he will be improved by the run because that's the type of dog he is.

"At his first trial at Richmond he clocked 31.18 but in his past two race wins there he has recorded 30.66 and 30.81.

"On his night Blue Squirrel can be a good beginner.''

Rue De Kahn, the first greyhound to win the Richmond Oaks and Dapto Oaks double, returns to Wentworth Park in box two in Friday night's first heat of the Ladbrokes fourth grade series.

The sprinter, who also won the 2014 Group 1 National Futurity, is trained by DEAN Swain for GOLD COAST owner-breeder Michael Laffey.

"I own more than 100 greyhounds and have 10 of them with DEAN Swain,'' Laffey said yesterday.

"I got into the sport four or five years ago and have my race dogs with six trainers in SA and with DEAN, Ross Gerard and John Dart in NSW.''

Rue De Kahn should swell her earnings to $209,475 if she wins on Friday night as with six wins at Wentworth Park she is well placed in this class.

Her only problem could be negotiating her way around the wide running Bertacious Bee (box one).
