Blinker's On Looking For Eye-Catching Start

By Stuart Turner

Paul Stuart believes his new kennel star Blinker’s On can get their new racing partnership off to a flying start at Saturday’s Cannington meeting.

The former Victorian has his first outing under the tutelage of Stuart in the Last Hurrah Next Saturday Stakes (race 11, 642m).

Blinker’s On built a decent record under former trainer Brooke Ennis, earning almost $80,000 in prize-money.

His last appearance was a fourth-place run at Sandown Park over 715m last month but Stuart said his new greyhound looks in decent nick.

“I’ve had him for a month and he’s been trialling really well for me,” Stuart said.

“He’s probably a shade below the likes of Space Star and the other top stayers in Victoria, but he still has ability.

“With respect to the other stayers in WA, he should be a class above most of them here.

“If he gets near the bunny he is still fast. I hope he still has the ability to win some good races.”

Blinker’s On jumps from box six here and will be aiming to improve his career record of 11 wins and 10 minor placings from 38 starts.

His record includes finishing second behind Space Star in February’s Group 1 Zoom Top at The Meadows and other solid racing in Victoria.

The son of Cosmic Rumble and Good Oil has experience of the Cannington track, having made the final of the Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy in February.

With the impending closure of Cannington and the transfer of races to Mandurah, Stuart believes his greyhound will soon be adding to his wins.

“The big roomy track at Mandurah should really suit him,” Stuart said.  “He is also dropping in grades here compared to Victoria, which is another plus.

“Hopefully we can get his confidence back up and he’ll be ready to go.”

Coconut Grove (box one) looks the next best here but is not in top form.

In other action, Fun Boss is in superb form at the moment and looks a strong chance to claim another victory in race seven.

Box six should not hold too many fears for the classy sprinter, who is decent from the squeeze boxes and should have too much for the rest here.

Nero Bolt has been running impressively over the last two months and with the red rug can pinch an even-looking race three.

Tick Bale (box one) is another in-form greyhound and also looks ideally drawn to take out the 12th and last race.
