Fernando Bale Looking Four-Midable

By Jeff Collerson

Box four is unlikely to prevent Australia's wonder dog Fernando Bale spearheading another Andrea Dailly big race trifecta in Saturday night's Group 1 Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic final at Wentworth Park.

Dailly has four of the eight finalists and while Kenju Bale (box two) will be one of the outsiders, the trainer has a great chance of filling all placings with Fernando Bale (pictured), Dyna Double One (box eight) and Elfen Bale (box three).

Andrea's husband Tom  said he was relieved when he learned that Fernando Bale had drawn outside his litter sister Elfen Bale.

"Fernando likes to have a bit of room on his outside and if Elfen Bale had been there she might have crowded him in the run to the first turn,'' Dailly said.

"Fernando Bale tried to anticipate the start last week and mis-judged it slightly so didn't ping the lids they way he usually does.

"But even though he was only second at the first turn I was very pleased with his run.''

Despite being only fourth away in his semi-final,  Fernando Bale still won by 10 lengths and recorded easily the fastest time of the four semi-finals.

Second fastest qualifier was Fernando Bale's kennelmate Dyna Double One and Tom Dailly believes if Fernando Bale's winning streak comes to an end it will be that greyhound who inflicts a defeat.

"Dyna Double One will run straight from the boxes to the first turn and I really like him drawn out in box eight,'' Dailly said.

While most believe Fernando Bale will win, NSW owner-trainer Brad Canty is confident his greyhound No Donuts will take out the Group 1 final.

"I'll admit I was disappointed with No Donuts' second placing behind Tullabung Honey in last week's semi-final but I still think he will win now that he has drawn box one,'' Canty said.

"No Donuts will clock no worse than 5.40 to the first mark so he'll be up close at the first turn.

"The draw is fantastic because despite what others are saying I believe Elfen Bale will step to the right when the boxes open.

"She is a brilliant beginner and if she does that she could hold up Fernando Bale for a couple of strides.''

Trainer John Chapman  adopted the unusual tactic of starting Lithgow Panther in a 520m sprint at Wentworth Park last Monday night but he believes that race will prove the perfect preparation for his dog in Saturday night's GBOTA Stayers' Challenge Final (720m).

"I was rapt in the way Lithgow Panther came from last to finish third on Monday and that was a good little hit-out for him, certainly better than trialling him over 520m on his own,'' Chapman said.

"He needed a gallop but has been campaigning for a long time so the run over 520m should be just right for Saturday night's 720m race.

"And obviously I'm delighted he has drawn box one because he can be a  hit or miss at the start.''

Shilling Flex is boxed to upset favourite Fantastic Spiral in the GBOTA Sprint Challenge Final (520m).

The Sean Bannerman-trained dog ran the race of his life to beat all but Jewel Action in a top grade Wentworth Park 520m race last week.

With speedy wide runner Cooper Trooper in box three, Shilling Flex should get the run of the race from box two.
